    Fails to address how a team lacking in starter depth gets better by subtracting. You just keep going round the mulberry bush to the injury history because it's all you have.

    That's fine, but I fail to see how removing Sale did anything for our depth.

    Quite possible, but I think it should also be noted that this was a very, very reasonable extension. He was slated to make $27 mill for 2024, so the extension was one year for $11 mill, plus the Braves got a team option for a third year at $18 mill. He certainly didn't play hardball with them. (Yes, I know, injury-plagued beggars can't be choosers and all that.)

    What an at-bat by Yoshida. Took a real close one, fouled off a couple, finally got his pitch. I swear I was thinking that this just might be his moment, and there it was.

    To me that move was Cora to the Core. Sticking to his guns and going with the L-R matchup even though it's the final out, Gonzo is having a big game and Dom Smith is..well, Dom Smith. And what does Dom do but coolly rifle a single up the middle and set the stage.

    Judge has been DHing a lot, and Verdugo and Grisham have both been in the OF.

    Because 10 million is still a chunk of change? This is like asking why they traded Price when they still had to pay $16 million.

    The Yankees have a lot of issues right now. But sometimes just when you think they're dead they get re-animated, so I never take anything for granted. I'm sure they want to keep Soto, but they have other needs as well, and Hal already said they can't keep spending at this level. Will be interesting to watch.

    This is an interesting one - based on my cursory research it appears that at one time it could be done, and I can't find much clear info on when the rule was changed, if it was.

    And then you have poor Kenny Lofton, whose teams did this in a 3 year stretch: 2002 Giants - blew 3-2 lead in WS 2003 Cubs - blew 3-1 lead in NLCS 2004 Yankees - blew 3-0 lead in ALCS And just for good measure: 2007 Guardians - blew 3-1 lead in ALCS

    Henry generously donated Lester to the Cubs to help them break a 108-year title drought, and he donated Betts to the Dodgers to help them break a 32-year drought.

    Valdez hasn't played the last 2 games. But as we've been talking about here lately, Cora uses everybody, and Valdez was pretty hot with the bat for a while, and Hamilton was slumping. Hamilton, however, has been by far the better player over Valdez this year.

    The signing of Giolito was actually announced the day before the Sale trade was announced. Looks like they were probably both in the works at the same time.

    Grissom was about half a win below replacement level in 2023 by both fWAR and bWAR. Doesn't really sound like a guy you expect to plug and play.
