    How is he supposed to "earn" it? Like I said, he had a 110 OPS+ last year in his first season. That makes him a little closer to an established MLB hitter than the other guys we're talking about. Plus he's had injury issues this year. It's pretty hard to earn anything when you're not in the lineup. I think Cora is a master at juggling all the lineup conundrums and giving everyone a fair shot. If Yoshida doesn't start to produce, at some point he will get squeezed out. But that time isn't here yet.

    He's also had various health issues that may or may not have impacted the decisions. In the last 9 games vs. Philly, NYY and Toronto, he was in the starting lineup 7 times.

    Right. moon wants everything to be a little too simple - just keep playing the 'hot hands' until they cool off, and since Yoshida isn't hot, bench him or get him out of a Red Sox uniform altogether.

    I think it's pretty simple. Cora will get everyone at-bats, and the guys who keep hitting will get more of them. Yoshida had a 110 OPS+ in his first MLB season, so I don't see writing him off just yet. Doesn't mean it was a good signing. The most obvious odd man out right now is Grissom.

    Hamilton has a 1.1 fWAR/1.3 bWAR in 157 PA's. That's not a guy you bench.

    Anything is possible in baseball. I think we really saw some reasons for optimism in this last stretch of 9 games. The offense took off while the pitching stayed solid. I'm not sure how the offense broke out the way it did, but maybe it's some good analytics/coaching going on behind the scenes. Plus O'Neill being healthy etc.

    Well, I do like the fact we had a run differential of +17 in these last 9 games against the Phils, Yanks and Jays.

    So you honestly believe they're going to be 41-46 in their last 87?

    With a Pythagorean record of 42-33 after a pretty tough stretch of games, I'd say they've moved up to better than mediocre.

    I think they're on the ascent, but it's baseball, so we shall see.

    Yoshida isn't going anywhere, not this year at least. He's the prototypical sunk cost. Let's just hope he stays well and heats up.

    Creating havoc on the bases is great, but first you have to get on the bases, and they have been doing a much better job of that too.

    The roster of the 2024 Red Sox is a product of the combined efforts of Dombrowski, Bloom and Breslow, and even Cherington (Devers), and if you really want to stretch it, Epstein, because of the returns on the Betts trade. Leave it to the Sox to have a team put together by 5 CBO's.

    I read that the team told Rafaela he should be taking the first pitch more often. Might have been just one little tweak in approach that turned things around for him.

    I'm just wondering if the scouts got a little overexcited about Grissom's hit tool because of his ability to make contact. The Statcast/Savant stuff shows he doesn't hit the ball very hard by MLB standards. A .497 OPS in his last 220 MLB PA's, with no home runs and not many EBH's period. We're talking some incredibly feeble stuff.

    Grissom has put himself behind the 8-ball with his injuries and horrible numbers. Now that the team is playing well and has a shot at the playoffs, who wants to see more tryouts for Grissom this year instead of playing Hamilton/Romy/Enmanuel? Seems like one or more of those guys getting injured would be needed to make room for Grissom.

    Grissom may already have no future with this team. Story/Mayer/Yorke/Lugo/Hamilton/Romy/Enmanuel.
