  1. Of course I never said anything about "proof" or "dazzle". Seems like all you have is straw man arguments. What seems clear to me is that past injuries do not necessarily predict future injuries. The Dodgers traded for and extended Tyler Glasnow, who pitched fewer innings than Sale from 2019-2023. We still have hope for Trevor Story. And so on.
  2. "Falling in the standings" - sure, let's make it sound more dramatic than it really was. It was one bad season, no more, no less. And not as bad as some other Red Sox seasons Henry has been witnessing. DD had inked Bogaerts to an extension through 2022, so that's wrong too.
  3. We've already gone over the fact that his fWAR was good when he pitched. 2019-2023 298.33 IP 6.7 fWAR Saying he didn't "show anything" since 2018 only clinches that you're not interested in being fair about it.
  4. None of that alters the fact that it was only one disappointing season. Plus you're chucking stuff in there that wasn't even known at the time, like how Price and Sale were going to perform in the future. Betts wasn't a free agent until after 2020, and nobody knew exactly how interested the Dodgers were in him until we traded him. So you're not really arguing in good faith.
  5. If Henry soured on DD because of one disappointing season out of 4, that would make him the most mercurial owner in history next to maybe George Steinbrenner at his worst.
  6. I think your hypothetical has to include Giolito getting injured. Besides, they would have seen in spring that Houck had taken a giant leap forward.
  7. Atlanta gave Sale a 2 year deal for $38 million, plus they have a club option for a third year at $18 million. The Red Sox are paying $17 million of the guaranteed $38 million. Thus Atlanta has control over Sale for 3 years but are only actually on the hook for $21 million.
  8. fWAR's at the season's halfway point: Sale 3.0 Grissom -0.9
  9. Eovaldi's 2018 salary was $2 million.
  10. Romy Gonzalez, AKA Senor Clutch.
  11. Sorry, I made you do that work for nothing. I was asking moon for examples of deadline trades that involved "getting good talent without giving up better prospects by taking on bloated contracts."
  12. Any past examples?
  13. I didn't know the teams had that much say in it.
  14. The OPS has been going up. He has pop and he has speed.
  15. In recent years it rarely gets out of my thoughts.
  16. And the next time someone uses the now hackneyed line "I'll drive him to the airport myself" they should be suspended for a week.
  17. Now if you find a spell check that actually works we'll be all set...
  18. It's the Armchair Wheeler Dealer Syndrome.
  19. This can never be said enough.
  20. He's been contributing some on offense too, no?
  21. Accounting is the same. Following all the rules and regulations and standards can be deadly boring. It's only when you get to be a little creative and play in the margins a bit to the advantage of your client that you feel like you're doing something worthwhile.
  22. The good news is, in spite of bombing out so far on the Sale trade and the Giolito signing, Breslow is still looking pretty damn good with his overall performance.
  23. Somehow I think Houck would have found his way into the 2024 rotation.
  24. Or both - like what us accountants and lawyers do.
