  1. Right. And that bullpen game pretty much led to Cora having to use Campbell last night. Fortunately it all worked out for us.
  2. Losing Betts was of course the prime example of this ownership not spending when it should have.
  3. It's tricky stuff. If you wait for them to prove themselves the price tag can escalate pretty quickly. What's the exactly right time to do it?
  4. Sure, but I think complaining is understandable when the Red Sox win 78 games 2 years in a row and we see teams like the Yanks/Dodgers/Phillies spending and winning. In spite of what's going on with the Sox right now, spending does have a high correlation with winning. And good cheap players don't stay that way long. Extensions for good young players are spending too.
  5. And my pet theory is that the budget they gave Breslow forced him to free up some money somehow. Giolito was signed just days after they traded Sale.
  6. Sure. But anyone suggesting there are a lot of fans who care more about spending than winning are erecting a straw man the size of The Wicker Man in the original movie.
  7. Pure unfounded speculation about what he looked like. He said was he was frustrated with his injuries and not living up to his contract.
  8. What data would that be?
  9. You said "even if what he's doing is working for the Braves, it didn't fit for this system." Sorry man, but I really hate this statement. And I refuse to believe that's the way Bailey works.
  10. Power Rankings aren't silly. They're stupendously pointless and asinine, a complete waste of human time and energy.
  11. Needs are everything. Teams who badly need a high leverage reliever for the playoffs have been known to pay by a lot. Some thought Theo Epstein was nuts when he traded Torres for Chapman.
  12. Of course. But nobody knew he was capable of this kind of improvement in 2021-2022. He was written off by many. There's no possible way to get every extension right, any more than than there is with free agents. It's a hard game to forecast.
  13. Yes, you are the only fan who enjoys watching cheaper guys play well.
  14. So who exactly are you crediting for the team starting to look good?
  15. Sure seems simple from here!
  16. Nope, they were extended before blooming.
  17. Starters and high leverage relievers are just totally different profiles.
  18. Houck and Duran have been late bloomers. Pretty hard to predict they would get this good all of a sudden.
  19. Harsh LOL I said "fairly well", not "perfectly". 2 weeks is not really that long.
  20. The Mets are only 1 game out of a Wild Card spot themselves. Can't really assume that Cohen is in the mood to sell.
  21. Maybe trade Yoshida to the Halos in the offseason, eating 60-70% of the contract.
  22. Incredible as it seems, Kennedy's last chat about the team underperforming and needing to go on a hot streak has turned out to have been fairly well timed.
  23. Think there was some P.R. desperation involved in these extensions?
  24. Jansen is pitching himself into being indispensable.
  25. For his career Devers is averaging 106 RBI per 162 games. He's just been having one of those years of making a lot of outs with men on. But that's bound to turn around.
