True. He did seem like a logical fit for us, though, innings eater and all that. They did have a Zoom meeting with him. Reportedly they were not big fans of his stuff - that's certainly an acceptable reason to pass.
Just read through this thread for the period around the Imanaga signing. It's fair to say that most of the comments were cynical and/or despondent about the lack of action on the starting pitching front.
I'm sure I expressed disappointment about not signing Imanaga. I'll have to dig up the posts about it.
I'm picking on that one because we know the Sox were actually in on the bidding.
Yeah, personally I think Bloom got scapegoated. He pretty much did what they hired him to do. And Breslow appears to be operating under the same tight constraints, not much has changed, especially with the damn pitching.
But why not sign a pitcher that will be around for more than a year? It's not like we have a bunch of young studs waiting in the wings.
Plus it kind of looks like Crawford and Bello just aren't that good.
