  1. Understood...we got a pitching prospect, which was OK, but Lillibridge is taking up a roster spot...we already have backup infielders and outfielders...they had to DFA Germano to make room for Ellsbury. It's kind of a head-scratcher.
  2. Well how about that...we picked up a game on all of our fellow AL East Yankee-dust-suckers.
  3. Does anybody actually know why we acquired Lillibridge...
  4. Just not sure about the bunt sometimes...Ciriaco is the hottest hitter on the planet. Now Ellsbury gets to face a fireballing lefty.
  5. Aviles is going to get hot again...there, I just had my first post-ASB optimistic thought.
  6. I think he's hurt. It's hard to keep track lately.
  7. Gomez felt like even more of a zero chance. Apparently Gonzo's scratch was so late that Valentine had no choice but to put Gomez in his spot. More s*** luck.
  8. We got the same result, and Nava got a chance to swing.
  9. Gomez up, Maddon goes to a righty reliever.
  10. They'll walk Ortiz though.
  11. You've been on a hot streak with the limericks, but are probably due to regress soon.
  12. Aceves had 3 games in which he blew the save and took the loss, so we're really talking about 7 possible losses that could be blamed on him. But in 2 of his losses he was in his second or third inning of work. I don't think he should be blamed for those losses. I think he can be charged with 5 lost games. Using the same criteria I'm using for Aceves, Papelbon can be charged with 3 lost games.
  13. Some of those are double dippers, meaning he blew the save and took the loss in the same game. If I get the time I'll try to go through the game logs and do some analysis on that.
  14. As SFF says though, if you assume a 6 month recovery, he ain't gonna do us any good in January, so why not see how he plays now.
  15. Lester is pitching horribly at Fenway (5.80) and very well on the road (3.04). That'll certainly catch the eye of any teams interested in him. If we do trade him, I have little doubt that he'll get himself straightened out and will have a long, productive career.
  16. Very nicely put.
  17. The thing is, SFF, that is an elephant-sized IF. We're over halfway through the season. If Beckett and Lester haven't gotten it together by now, what exactly is there to generate any optimism in that area? Especially when they're both coming off dismal performances against the NYY. There's just nothing there...
  18. Lee is probably right on both counts.
  19. This team has problems on all fronts. As bad as things have gone this year, I thought maybe Beckett and Lester could step up against the Yanks, but no. It was the Oakland series that really snapped me though. Especially that second game. That was as brutal as it gets. Punto blows the bunt, Kalish goes Psycho Lyons and gets thrown at third, Aceves blows the save. What a trifecta! That was awful.
  20. I don't think it's possible to have a highly successful Red Sox team without a strong offence. You play half your games in Fenway, you have to be able to win some 8-6 games, and to blow away some weaker teams by putting up crooked numbers early.
  21. This team did a great job building a run differential monster starting around 2002. We started losing our run differential mojo in 2009.
