  1. Bard had 9 losses and 5 blows last year. Not quite as automatic as you're making him out to be.
  2. But 4 of those 7 runs in 'non-save situations' were in 2 games where he entered with the score tied and gave up the winning run(s). I think those situations should be treated as equal to save situations.
  3. Especially when our bullpen's collective ERA is 3.08.
  4. I have to disagree. From 1999 to 2002 the Red Sox had a better ERA than the Yankees 3 out of the 4 years and finished behind them every year. In 2001, the Yankees had a 4.02 to our 4.15, and finished 13 games ahead of us. It wasn't until 2003, when our offence became a potent force, that we were able to match up with the Yankees.
  5. No, my question is, what use does Lillibridge have to the Red Sox.
  6. Understood...we got a pitching prospect, which was OK, but Lillibridge is taking up a roster spot...we already have backup infielders and outfielders...they had to DFA Germano to make room for Ellsbury. It's kind of a head-scratcher.
  7. Well how about that...we picked up a game on all of our fellow AL East Yankee-dust-suckers.
  8. Does anybody actually know why we acquired Lillibridge...
  9. Just not sure about the bunt sometimes...Ciriaco is the hottest hitter on the planet. Now Ellsbury gets to face a fireballing lefty.
  10. Aviles is going to get hot again...there, I just had my first post-ASB optimistic thought.
  11. I think he's hurt. It's hard to keep track lately.
  12. Gomez felt like even more of a zero chance. Apparently Gonzo's scratch was so late that Valentine had no choice but to put Gomez in his spot. More s*** luck.
  13. We got the same result, and Nava got a chance to swing.
  14. Gomez up, Maddon goes to a righty reliever.
  15. They'll walk Ortiz though.
  16. You've been on a hot streak with the limericks, but are probably due to regress soon.
  17. Aceves had 3 games in which he blew the save and took the loss, so we're really talking about 7 possible losses that could be blamed on him. But in 2 of his losses he was in his second or third inning of work. I don't think he should be blamed for those losses. I think he can be charged with 5 lost games. Using the same criteria I'm using for Aceves, Papelbon can be charged with 3 lost games.
  18. Some of those are double dippers, meaning he blew the save and took the loss in the same game. If I get the time I'll try to go through the game logs and do some analysis on that.
  19. As SFF says though, if you assume a 6 month recovery, he ain't gonna do us any good in January, so why not see how he plays now.
  20. Lester is pitching horribly at Fenway (5.80) and very well on the road (3.04). That'll certainly catch the eye of any teams interested in him. If we do trade him, I have little doubt that he'll get himself straightened out and will have a long, productive career.
  21. Very nicely put.
