I get too fired up about this stuff sometimes, especially when numbers are involved.
My alltime favorite quarterback was Joe Montana. I'm not saying he was the best, he probably wasn't-top 10 I would have to say. The thing about Montana was he was so pretty to watch, the smooth fakes, the rollouts, the pinpoint passes. And he was a clutch performer. I think Super Bowl rings or NFL titles has to be a big part of how QB's are rated. I didn't like Terry Bradshaw but 4 rings, can't take that away from him. Ditto Troy Aikman and his 3 rings. The fact Brady has 3 rings plays a big part in the credit I give him.
I didn't see Unitas or Bart Starr but obviously they were right up there at the top of the pedestal.
Dan Marino and Dan Fouts were fantastic passers, but no championships, that's a downgrade.
A few years ago I was in on a big discussion about who the best QB was and somebody made a strong case that Elway was the most gifted because of his ability to run as well as pass.
It's all fodder for debate.
