  1. The Lowrie for Melancon trade is looking a little better. Lowrie had been slumping for about a month and is now on the DL with what could be a significant injury. Melancon has been excellent since being recalled, giving up 1 run and 10 baserunners in 15.1 innings.
  2. Well, we certainly needed that win.
  3. A home run and two walks today. Crawford comes back tomorrow. I would still hate to see Nava get traded. I have to admit, part of the reason for that is that I find him so likeable.
  4. Beckett's track record with us is pretty erratic though.
  5. I hear you. First inning and we've already made our first gaffe.
  6. Alright Nava. I think he is going to have a good game today.
  7. I had stopped paying attention to the CERA numbers for a while, but last night Remy mentioned that we were 18-10 in Shoppach's starts and that got my attention again. The won-lost records for the catchers (games they started) the past 2 years are mind-boggling. Salty 73-82 Varitek 42-22 Shoppach 18-11 VTek + Shopp 60-33
  8. Don't get me wrong, I liked Papelbon a lot and I wish we had retained him.
  9. Yes, because you can be charged with a blown save if you let inherited runners score. The funniest blown save in history was Rivera's in ALCS Game 5. He came in with runners and first and third and no outs, and because he allowed the game-tying sac fly it was a blown save.
  10. I hated it that we didn't score in the 5th after getting the first 2 men on. We missed some opportunities in the first game of the series and got away with it. But getting away with it two games in a row in the TropDump is asking too much.
  11. 5 games is a crazy high number...we're only a little more than halfway through the year. If you want to add 5 games for Paps, how many would you add for our starting pitching, which everyone agrees is the biggest problem? 10 games? Then we'd have the best record in baseball, right? Look, Paps was here last year and the year before when we missed the playoffs, and our starting pitching was better. So how does the math work here? This is just pulling numbers out of the air with nothing to back them up.
  12. Bard had 9 losses and 5 blows last year. Not quite as automatic as you're making him out to be.
  13. But 4 of those 7 runs in 'non-save situations' were in 2 games where he entered with the score tied and gave up the winning run(s). I think those situations should be treated as equal to save situations.
  14. Especially when our bullpen's collective ERA is 3.08.
  15. I have to disagree. From 1999 to 2002 the Red Sox had a better ERA than the Yankees 3 out of the 4 years and finished behind them every year. In 2001, the Yankees had a 4.02 to our 4.15, and finished 13 games ahead of us. It wasn't until 2003, when our offence became a potent force, that we were able to match up with the Yankees.
  16. No, my question is, what use does Lillibridge have to the Red Sox.
  17. Understood...we got a pitching prospect, which was OK, but Lillibridge is taking up a roster spot...we already have backup infielders and outfielders...they had to DFA Germano to make room for Ellsbury. It's kind of a head-scratcher.
  18. Well how about that...we picked up a game on all of our fellow AL East Yankee-dust-suckers.
  19. Does anybody actually know why we acquired Lillibridge...
  20. Just not sure about the bunt sometimes...Ciriaco is the hottest hitter on the planet. Now Ellsbury gets to face a fireballing lefty.
  21. Aviles is going to get hot again...there, I just had my first post-ASB optimistic thought.
