  1. The timing and circumstances of this are bizarre, considering Sweeney had actually contributed to the Sunday win over the Yankees, and this was a freaking single that he got robbed of...not to mention the trade deadline thing.
  2. Don't trade Shoppy, trade Salty. We're 23-13 when Shoppy starts.
  3. Great, now I have to stay up to find out why.
  4. I would hate to see Shopp dealt now. I think he's been great this year.
  5. Props to Clay Buchholz for another solid outing. He is stepping up for us.
  6. Yes, the time to play some f'king baseball has arrived.
  7. My attitude about Beckett has been vacillating between Sweet Chin Music's and Born to Run's all year. Now I'm just tired of all the trade rumor crap. I want July 31 over and I want this team to start playing some real baseball. Every now and then they give signs of being able to do it.
  8. That was the year I started listening to Sox games on the radio. I'm pretty sure Sonny Siebert came close to throwing a no-hitter that year.
  9. I'm at the point now I'm looking forward to July 31 being over so I don't have to read this kind of ******** for awhile.
  10. Bard now has 5 straight scoreless appearances. Bordering on encouraging. Keep it going Danny boy.
  11. So excited to see Sweeney in the lineup. The dude is on fire...3 extra-base hits since June 1. Seriously what is this stiff doing on the team?
  12. Sell the farm for Shields? He's not that good. He has a career ERA+ of 1.04. Away from the TropDump he has a career ERA of 4.66. His main strength is as an innings eater.
  13. This team is configured to allow everybody to blame somebody else for the mess. Cherries can blame Henry and Lucchino for not giving him more money. Henry and Lucchino can blame Epstein for the bad deals he locked them into. Valentine can blame his bosses for not giving him more control and Francona for leaving the clubhouse in a mess. The hitters can blame the starting pitchers. And the starting pitchers can blame McClure, Salty and the left side of the infield.
  14. I'm sure Valentine is frustrated but I don't think he'll quit. He's got nothing to gain by doing that.
  15. The quote in MLB Rumors says the Red Sox have 'mild interest' in Vargas. That about sums it up doesn't it? This team has mild interest in making a deadline move. They have mild interest in this season and the whole concept of winning games.
  16. His WHIP went down though. Here's the crazy splits on Jon: Home 7.39 ERA 1.75 WHIP Road 3.34 ERA 1.10 WHIP Home cookin' never tasted so bad...
  17. Yes. And beating the Yankees is always a good thing.
  18. Really good question, since he's even colder than Nava. 2 for 24, now 2 for 25 in July.
  19. Yep, he's one of the few lefties Crawford hits really well. Crazy stuff.
  20. As another poster pointed out, Crawford had a day off Thursday, day before yesterday. f***ing lunacy.
  21. Valentine is a 62-year old man. He was out of an MLB job for a decade. He had his fill of the TV gig, presumably. Now he's got a 2 year contract managing one of the big shot teams. He's probably grateful to the brass for hiring him. Whether they told him so or he realized it himself, there came a point when it occurred to him that blowing his stack on a regular basis might not be such a great idea for the future of his career as a manager. So yeah, he's just another docile puppy with a paycheck now.
