  1. For the same reasons any manager has to take some of the blame when a record of failure reaches this magnitude.
  2. Much of the hyperbole was for comic effect.
  3. Well, I knew it was bad. But until you pull up the actual numbers you don't realize what a mind-blowing abomination it really is. Some of you may even disbelieve that these are the real numbers. But they are, God help us, they are. (Since 2002) Regular season W-L 21-58 RS-RA 302-443 Postseason W-L 2-12 RS-RA 36-69 Total W-L 23-70 (.247) RS-RA 338-512 (-174) Let it sink in...23 wins and a minus 174 differential in 93 games. Unsurprisingly, the Twins have not won the season series once since 2002, though to be fair they did eke out a 3-3 tie twice. In 2001, the Twins last year under Tom Kelly, the Twins won the season series 4-2. It's an outrage that Gardenhire has been permitted to keep his job through this 12-year nightmare.
  4. Three or four girlfriends and enough cigarettes to asphyxiate a small city? Yikes, man, I think you better cut back on the girlfriends.
  5. Jesus Christ, Will...cut it out with the Singing Frog routine. (Bugs Bunny cartoon reference)
  6. Yes, Miller has been a pleasant surprise, and the Sox deserve some credit for not giving up on this guy. He's sort of like Bard in reverse.
  7. I concur with the list. I would add Dempster to the list of surprises. He had that rough stretch in May but has rebounded superbly, logging 45 innings and a 3.40 ERA over his last 7 starts. Lester has been a disappointment but there's still hope. Very disappointed with Hanrahan and Bailey.
  8. I would expect the Red Sox main target is a late inning reliever. It only makes sense. Cherington thought the back end of the bullpen was an area of need so he added Hanrahan and Uehara. Hanrahan is a goner. Bailey looked like he would pick up for Hanrahan, then he bombed out. Uehara has been excellent but has durability questions. Tazawa has been solid but not quite as good as hoped based on last year. Miller and Breslow have both been solid. But for the stretch run another proven late inning reliever would be a big help.
  9. The Angels are on their way to their 7th win in a row tonight. I think they are a tougher assignment than the Padres right now.
  10. The 42.5 year old Jason Giambi steps up to the plate for Cleveland. I'm thinking, 'How can this guy still be playing?' And he promptly hits an absolute rope into the right-field corner.
  11. Or as I like to explain it to myself, "This can't be as stupid as it looks".
  12. All logic dictates that they should win no more than 85 games. But I still don't feel comfortable writing them off this early. They're like an ailment that keeps coming back when you thought it was gone.
  13. And there, in the charred ruins of Talksox I saw some comments start to pop up...and lo and behold, they were caustic and full of sarcasm!
  14. He's pitched pretty well lately though (1.98 ERA in last 36.1 IP). However, we are playing good offense right now and I think we can put a crooked number on him just as we did with Wang and Johnson.
  15. Your lineup is so decimated now it's about as bad as ours was after the trade last year. Needless to say your pitching is a lot better.
  16. We often worry about our bullpen getting stretched thin. In the first 2 games of this series the Jays starters have pitched 5 innings and their pen has pitched 11. Let's see if we can get into that pen early one more time today.
  17. Uehara's been a dream so far. They have to be careful with him needless to say. If there's a save opp tomorrow Tazawa will have the chance.
  18. As for Bailey, he still hasn't had a 1-2-3 inning since April 24. They keep giving him chances and he keeps blowing them. He can't have many more left.
  19. WMB lost his job to Drew. Drew has been by far the better player since early in the season. It's the Sox good fortune that Iggy made the switch to third so easily. WMB could get his job back at some point this year but he's really fallen behind.
  20. There could also be some games going on between the Sox and the Tigers, who need a closer even more than we do.
  21. Injury...hopefully minor. Limping a bit when he came out.
  22. Some of the trade talk is just people having a bit too much time on their hands. Plus with the advent of message boards, people get to really indulge in their fantasies of being managers and GM's. But you also need to step back and not take yourself too seriously.
  23. Hopefully he can bounce back a bit. I'd say he's hovering on the edge of Toastville.
