  1. Young's numbers for 2012-13 aren't better than Drew's. He's a lot more durable though.
  2. No doubt Buchholz seems to be the pitching version of Ellsbury. Tons of talent but a very frustrating amount of missed time.
  3. jung, these statements are an example of how over the top and all over the place your posts on this are. First of all, Buchholz is under the control of the Red Sox until 2017, which is 4+ years away, so it's a little early to be caring about what other GM's think. Secondly, Josh Johnson's injury-prone reputation didn't stop the Jays from making the big move for him. Thirdly, Johnson's current predicament is that his 2013 numbers are s*****, not that he's not on the field.
  4. Which means that A-Rod might play this year? Wouldn't that be crazy.
  5. Sure. But how do any of us know there wouldn't have been more danger by him coming back before this?
  6. I'm concerned about Buchholz, of course. But jung is saying things like 'Buch's season is down the drain'. To me he's overreacting.
  7. I think I might be able to dig up some more examples of pitchers missing a month+ during a season and coming back strong...how many do we need?
  8. David Price went on the DL after his May 15 start. At that point he had a 5.24 ERA and a .811 OPS against in 9 starts. He returned from the DL July 2. In his first 3 starts he has a 1.08 ERA and a .483 OPS against and has pitched 25 innings. Conclusion: a period of game inactivity of 6-7 weeks doesn't necessarily cause bad things to happen...
  9. I'm not dismissing anything. I wish he was pitching sooner than later. But my position is that a) we don't have enough information to judge, and ranting is useless.
  10. jung, calm down, man...this is just ranting.
  11. I doubt that the jerk population has actually increased much over the years. It's all about the information we are privy to, that's what has increased exponentially. I mean, before "Ball Four" came out I doubt too many people pictured Mickey Mantle leading his teammates on Peeping Tom excursions.
  12. Yes, that picture really goes for the jugular.
  13. ? Please explain.
  14. Maybe he was insubordinate in that game, wouldn't be a shock.
  15. Absolutely correct, and I knew that was the answer too, that game sticks out in my mind because it was such a brutal loss. Crazy how we remember games like that...I think Sox fans are the champs when it comes to remembering specific games.
  16. The sad thing is, when a guy makes a quantum leap like this, you're always going to wonder about juice now. I sure hope he is clean.
  17. If they stay in order it'll be Doubront, Dempster and Lackey.
  18. Colon is on his way to the All-Star game and could be in the running for the Cy Young award. Wow, what an amazing comeback, what a feel-good story.
  19. I get what you're saying, believe me. This is just a theoretical debate and I don't think anybody can be proven wrong or right. But to me, intuitively, the objective of baseball is to get a lead and then keep it. Score early, then prevent. If in the hypothetical world a manager had Derek Jeter and Mark Belanger on his team, how would he use them? I think the majority of managers would play Jeter for the first 6-7 innings of a game and Belanger for the last 2-3 innings.
  20. I think User Name is right when he says that scoring a run has slightly more value than preventing a run. The idea is to take a lead and then protect it. The team that scores first wins a surprisingly high percentage of games. The team that scores very few runs and gives up very few runs is going to be in a lot of tight games and extra-inning games and their pitching staff is going to get worn down as a result.
  21. I'm not freaking about the Rays but they're not to be taken lightly IMO. Price missed a month and a half, in his first 2 starts since returning he gave up 1 run in 16 innings. Archer the punk has been pitching pretty well.
  22. I think 'cruise' is a little wishful. The Rays are only 3.5 back and have a very good chance to be closer than that at the break, as they're at home to the Astros for the next three.
  23. Doubront, Lackey and Dempster have been our saviors with Buchholz down and Lester scuffling.
  24. Gotta love the back to back sac flies. I think Salty had the most productive out you can possibly have (with no errors), moving runners up a total of 3 bases and contributing to 2 runs.
