  1. At one time the Jays had Dave Bush and Brandon League. And they pitched in the same game sometimes. I thought the Bush League thing was hilarious, but I think I was the only one on the planet who did.
  2. It's too bad Jimmy Gobble is no longer in the big leagues.
  3. You're not reading all Fred's posts obviously.
  4. Good thing I checked the MLB scoreboard...didn't know it was an early start.
  5. Fred, I think that Red Sox management is a lot less trigger-happy on these things than most message board posters.
  6. I think you also have to include Ortiz. There were a lot of complaints about his deal.
  7. Or Tazawa as relief ace/backup closer.
  8. Cashman has been a good GM for the Yanks but the guy is actually a nutjob. I'm surprised the Yankees have tolerated his antics this long. Can you imagine if Ben Cherington had a 'Fatal Attraction' stalker like Cash did?
  9. I think we should hold off on that. But I like the guy a lot so I'm not very objective about it.
  10. Based on a small sample though.
  11. Better yet, drill one off Steve Tyler when he's in the Monster seats.
  12. I think Napoli will go on another nice RBI run soon. And if he stays healthy I think his numbers at the end of the year will be solid.
  13. Yeah, he seems to have cut down on his swing a bit. Finally got tired of all the mighty swishes.
  14. I know that 'closer by committee' is like a dirty word, but it seems to me that a tandem of Uehara and Tazawa could work.
  15. Agreed, but at this point it's like saying re-acquiring Papelbon would make us better than re-acquiring Jenks.
  16. I know, and it looks like you were dead right.
  17. It looks like Pap's loss of velocity and reduced K rate is catching up to him quickly. Last night he didn't get hit hard by any means. But he gave up a single, a hit by pitch and a walk, and he didn't strike anybody out.
  18. Papelbon's blown saves for 2013: June 17 #1 June 19 #2 June 22 #3 June 24 #4
  19. It's the same annual rate as guys like Haren and Edwin Jackson are getting, and Dempster is pitching much better than them. $13 million is 50% of what 'aces' are getting now. Insanely inflated as it is, it's just the current economy of baseball.
  20. I don't think Dempster looks like a mistake at this point. He's got the second-most innings on the staff and his ERA is respectable, and close to what was expected. He's doing much better than a lot of the other dumpster boys like McCarthy, Haren, Jackson and Marcum.
  21. That does have a cheeriness that is reminiscent of what they said about Bard when they sent him down 'to find consistency'.
  22. Looking back at yesterday's game, I can understand Farrell using Bailey. But I'm perplexed why he didn't use him in the 6th to face the bottom of the order instead of the 7th to face the top. (Someone pointed this out on the game thread.)
  23. That'd be great. I hope Taz can be the guy.
