  1. Maybe he was insubordinate in that game, wouldn't be a shock.
  2. Absolutely correct, and I knew that was the answer too, that game sticks out in my mind because it was such a brutal loss. Crazy how we remember games like that...I think Sox fans are the champs when it comes to remembering specific games.
  3. The sad thing is, when a guy makes a quantum leap like this, you're always going to wonder about juice now. I sure hope he is clean.
  4. If they stay in order it'll be Doubront, Dempster and Lackey.
  5. Colon is on his way to the All-Star game and could be in the running for the Cy Young award. Wow, what an amazing comeback, what a feel-good story.
  6. I get what you're saying, believe me. This is just a theoretical debate and I don't think anybody can be proven wrong or right. But to me, intuitively, the objective of baseball is to get a lead and then keep it. Score early, then prevent. If in the hypothetical world a manager had Derek Jeter and Mark Belanger on his team, how would he use them? I think the majority of managers would play Jeter for the first 6-7 innings of a game and Belanger for the last 2-3 innings.
  7. I think User Name is right when he says that scoring a run has slightly more value than preventing a run. The idea is to take a lead and then protect it. The team that scores first wins a surprisingly high percentage of games. The team that scores very few runs and gives up very few runs is going to be in a lot of tight games and extra-inning games and their pitching staff is going to get worn down as a result.
  8. I'm not freaking about the Rays but they're not to be taken lightly IMO. Price missed a month and a half, in his first 2 starts since returning he gave up 1 run in 16 innings. Archer the punk has been pitching pretty well.
  9. I think 'cruise' is a little wishful. The Rays are only 3.5 back and have a very good chance to be closer than that at the break, as they're at home to the Astros for the next three.
  10. Doubront, Lackey and Dempster have been our saviors with Buchholz down and Lester scuffling.
  11. Gotta love the back to back sac flies. I think Salty had the most productive out you can possibly have (with no errors), moving runners up a total of 3 bases and contributing to 2 runs.
  12. Huh? What season do you mean? His first full season was 2009. Looks more like he's improving as he approaches his prime years.
  13. LOL he seems like the LCD fan to me...spouting off in reactionary fashion...seeing things differently today than he did yesterday.
  14. Ortiz is a good hitter.
  15. Good job by Breslow. 37 pitches, though, yikes...probably won't be seeing him the next 2 games.
  16. Seems like moving the fences in paid off for the Mariners.
  17. But on the dark side, 5 of those innings might have to come from the bullpen.
  18. What the hell is a #1 anyway?
  19. Hopefully this won't just be Chapter 4 of "When Things Go to s***, They Really Go to s***".
  20. Our starting pitching has been a lot better than expected so far this year. But anybody who came into the season thinking there were 2 #1's on a staff where the top ERA last year was 4.56, was not grounded in reality. I seriously doubt that half the board said this though.
  21. Why not just ask the person who said it.
  22. Miller's out for the year and Ellsbury and Victorino are both day-to-day. Beautiful.
  23. I think we need a good reliever from somewhere. Our bullpen is on thin ice right now.
  24. I sort of hate to bring this up again, but what if the Phillies were mainly interested in unloading Papelbon's contract and willing to take a mid-tier prospect only.
