No. Cano is just a good all-around hitter. Career home OPS 858, career road OPS 862.

I agree it's great. I don't think Cano will necessarily vanish there. The M's have had some superstars over the years.

The Rays have been the biggest rival for us since 2008. Met them twice in the playoffs, and in 2011 they finished ahead of us by a game.

No argument that the Yankees have been our main competitors at many times. But right now I think the landscape is different. There are other teams like the Rays, the Tigers, the Rangers, the A's, who are a bigger threat to take the pennant from us. And they operate much differently from the Yankees. We can't focus on the Yankees so much. Especially when there are indications that they are not being very smart.

I think the last couple of years they were reining in the spending a bit - letting Swisher and Martin go, for example. But when they miss the playoffs it's like 'f*** this s***'.

No, it looks more like Tanaka will be able to negotiate with every team that puts up the posting fee. So it'll be not much different from the usual free agency auction. This should also mean Tanaka will get a much bigger contract, with the posting fee lower. The Yankees will have a clear shot at him if they're willing to keep the spending spree going.
