  1. They need Sabathia to bounce back too. But yeah, if they get Tanaka and some other things go right they should be in the mix at least.
  2. You might be surprised how many Sox fans start talking about another championship once the season starts.
  3. You seem a little obsessed with their mediapower. The Yankees are not in a good situation right now or for the next few years as far as I can see. Not unless or until they start producing something out of their farm system.
  4. 'Play the kids' sounds great right now. If we're a few weeks into the season and the tandem of Bogaerts and Middlebrooks is looking shaky, we'll see how long that 'play the kids' attitude holds up. In my experience, not very long.
  5. Yes, it's reasonable and insane at the same time. The paradoxes of baseball economics.
  6. His offense might be overrated a bit. The WAR projections for Drew for 2014 are only about 2, where he was 3.4 on FanGraphs for 2013. Looks like the main reason is his home/road splits. He had an 859 OPS at Fenway and 687 on the road. Which might be one more reason that Boston is the perfect fit for him.
  7. Bogaerts isn't really the issue. A large % of Sox fans who would like Drew to be signed think Middlebrooks is the issue. The team that won the World Series had Drew at SS, Bogey at 3B and WMB on the pine.
  8. So it'll come down to where he wants to play...LA or NY.
  9. That's nonsense. How many feature games had the Giants or the Jets this year? How many had the Patriots or the Broncos?
  10. Great word.
  11. Like Better Call Saul on Breaking Bad.
  12. Holy s*** that's a lot of money. The first 30 million player. Also it exceeds the previous highest total deal for a pitcher by 40 million.
  13. Yes, you figured it out. The entire A-Rod investigation was about increasing your cable bill.
  14. Yes, it was a little strange they didn't punish him further about the fake website. Wasn't worth their while to pursue it I guess.
  15. It seems more likely to me the Yankees will use whatever leverage they have to get him to negotiate a buyout at a lower amount. Then he can try to sign with someone else a la post-suspension Manny. That's all just guessing though.
  16. Well, I think it's a step in the right direction that they were able to get all these suspensions without positive tests. The sickening development for me was the contract Peralta got.
  17. Sure, he's a complete sleazeball. But he probably knows more about what's going on with PED's in MLB right now than just about anybody. I know they won't hire him, but he might be a useful consultant at least. Many, many crimes would never have been solved without help from the sleazeballs.
  18. MLB should hire Bosch to help catch the cheats.
  19. Why the bigger penalty? Well, it's been covered here at length, but one more time then - the additional charges against A-Rod are that he: 1) enticed other players to use PED's. 2) obstructed MLB's investigation. Obviously the evidence of A-Rod's transgressions was strong enough for the arbitrator. The early expert opinions we've seen indicate that A-Rod's court appeal is extremely unlikely to succeed. Yes, MLB appears to have played dirty a bit, but that's a molehill next to the mountain of A-Rod's wrongdoing. All he's doing now is following in the ignoble steps of Lance Armstrong. It ultimately failed for Lance and it's going to fail for A-Rod just the same. He's done.
  20. Also, not to pile on, but who is playing second base and third base for the Yanks next year?
  21. I don't see the Yankees staying under the cap. They need at least one more starting pitcher, whether it's Tanaka or one of the leftovers. Right now their rotation is Sabathia, Kuroda, Nova and ???
  22. He's still talkin' the talk though. The guy is too much. There's going to be an interview with Bosch on TV tomorrow night...I heard a clip from it in which he lists 4-5 substances A-Rod was using.
  23. I think so. We made a total investment of 103 million in Dice-K. If someone signs Tanaka for 87.5 million, plus the 20 million fee, that's 'only' 107.5 million. With all the money flying around now, with the lack of premium free agent pitchers, and with the Yankees and Dodgers both with hard-ons, this should get crazy.
  24. With the way things are shaping up, he should be looking well north of that, I'd say.
