  1. f*** Dodger castoffs.
  2. With the stuff going on his personal life, I suspect Dempster is experiencing depression or something similar. Pretty hard to function properly in that condition.
  3. You don't remember it quite as well as you think. Let Baseball-Reference be your friend! Johnson made it halfway through the 1976 season before being canned for Zimmer. McNamara made it all the way through the 1987 season and halfway through the 1988 season before being canned for Morgan.
  4. I don't begrudge Schilling his $8 million either. He more than earned the money we paid him in his time here. And he put his health on the line to help us win it in 2004.
  5. Yes, he's a dumbass, mediocre pitcher who happened to make $90 million in his career. The $90 million came from us baseball fans one way or the other...the joke's on us, really.
  6. Agreed, confluence is a very good word.
  7. Dammit, I am really coming up with some decent stuff here too.
  8. It's really not that much different from retiring. Some guys retire even though they know they could hang on another year or two and get paid plenty for it.
  9. I predict they'll spend most of the 13 million.
  10. Anyway f*** Dempster and his motives. It's 13 million freed up, it's a salary dump the easy way. Let the good times roll.
  11. It's not foolish if he feels mentally unable to play baseball. You don't know what his mental state is, or his personal balance sheet either. And I truly believe I can change your mind on this if I re-phrase my position about 5 more times.
  12. Unless he has been very stupid with his money, he should have a personal net worth of at least 40 million. If the wife gets half that's 20 million. If you can get 2% after-tax return on 18 million of it that's 360K a year without touching the principal.
  13. Not necessarily, when it gives you six months of your life to do other things, and you don't need the money anyway. Depends on your viewpoint I guess.
  14. This is great news for the team IMO. As for Dempster, I can understand him doing it this way if he's just not up to pitching this year. It's a lot of money to toss away, but it may be the right thing for him to do personally. This way he doesn't get into any disputes with the team. And I'm pretty sure he's well set financially as it is, having made almost $90 million in his career!
  15. rjortiz is correct that if we did have Pedro, and had clinched the division, our playoff rotation would have been set up much better, because we would also have had Schilling, who came back healthy at the end of the season.
  16. If they had re-signed Pedro, it still might not have meant a World Series title in 2005. Furthermore, they might not have made the Beckett trade, so we might not have won in 2007 either. Keep in mind the Butterfly Effect - if you change one thing, many other things change too.
  17. Farrell has spoken up on the Drew situation again. He says the team still doesn't know if Drew will be back or not and it's 'almost time to move on' to be fair to the other players.
  18. Saw some nice comments from Sox players yesterday about Jeter...from Nava and Buchholz in particular. Nava said the first time Jeter talked to him, Jeter praised him for making it to the bigs...he knew all about Nava's backstory...Nava was pretty impressed by that.
  19. No, I've read plenty of Dojji's posts. Are you going to reply to every one of his posts now with your list of the 6 deadly faults? Lighten up a bit...we're all just bored and re-hashing old history here for something to do.
  20. Huh? His post was pretty straightforward.
  21. Tito made the worst mistake of his career not taking Beckett out of Game 2.
  22. Lester pitched one good game and one terrible game in the ALCS. Beckett pitched one good game and one terrible game. Dice-K pitched one good game and one terrible game. Wakefield pitched one terrible game.
  23. The injury didn't occur in the ALCS.
