  1. Yep...our Benny Boy is staying sharp.
  2. But pitcher salaries are taking another inflationary leap before our eyes. Greinke is arguably a good comp for Lester (ERA of 3.80 in the AL) and he pulls down 25 million.
  3. Well, this offseason stopped being boring.
  4. I can't see that being good news for us.
  5. "Yanks won't be signing anymore notable FA's this off-season, Cashman said yesterday the bank is basically closed." Source: Divinity
  6. Now I don't see why the Yankees wouldn't top that.
  7. So it's a risky steal.
  8. Apparently yes. The Reds thought they had a deal with Sizemore in fact.
  9. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. There will be a correction at some point.
  10. Sounds about right. But man, the economics of baseball are rather mind-boggling - how long can the salaries continue to grow at a rate of inflation that is so disproportionate to the general economy?
  11. Something tells me the Yankees won't let him pitch in the WBC. That's what probably destroyed Dice-K...nice that he got 2 MVP awards though.
  12. Half-joking, but they just wouldn't be the same Yankees if they were serious about this 'under the tax threshold' nonsense. And next year they'll have that little A-Rod expenditure back on the books.
  13. Well, in a way it's reassuring that the Yankees are back to their old 200 million+ payroll selves.
  14. So he makes 3-4 million.
  15. Did you just use the word silly in the same sentence as the Bodacious one?
  16. It's probably worth pointing out that since Tanaka is the guy that puts the Yankees over the tax threshold, and their tax rate is 50%, he is effectively going to cost them about 33 million this year, and that doesn't factor in the revenue-sharing-disqualification thingamajig. Here is a link to their payroll figures, which don't include about 11 million in player benefits that also counts toward tax. http://mlbreports.com/2014/01/22/tanaka-pay/
  17. None of us have a clue how Tanaka's stuff will translate to MLB.
  18. Gotta love that opt-out clause. Especially after Sabathia cashed in on his so nicely.
  19. Ha ha...love that opt-out clause. Just like the Sabathia deal.
  20. In my devious mind, I'm thinking the Yankees could force his hand simply by benching him and making him miserable. The only way out for him would be to negotiate a buyout and hook on with another team for a pittance - assuming that he really does want to continue playing baseball.
  21. Sure they do, or not. But so do GM's perform and not perform at constructing a roster and farm system. And I find that fans on these forums love to analyze it all, often at great length.
  22. They care plenty about their performance.
  23. faruk is gone but his work lives on.
  24. Fine, but what about the answer to the question.
  25. Nobody disagrees that more than one more person assembled the 2004 and 2007 teams. If you were going to list the people who assembled those teams in order, where would he rank?
