  1. Speaking only for myself, some of it is probably wishful thinking. But Sabathia's innings load has been huge. 2,900 major league innings including postseason.
  2. Not quite. We're not TB. Just listen to what Lucchino says. The Red Sox don't like handing out megadeals to FA's but they know it has to be done sometimes. They will take a 'balanced approach', which only makes sense when you're a wealthy team. Lester is a good bet. A big strong lefty who has succeeded in the AL East and just took us to a World Series. Guys like him don't grow on trees. The prospects are just that.
  3. Would you stop with the crying poor for the Red Sox? Our payroll this year will be right at the luxury tax threshold, the same as it has been for several years. We're a wealthy team.
  4. Get serious. Burnett obviously benefitted hugely from moving to the NL. His career ERA in the AL is 4.39. His ERA with the Yankees was 4.79. 'The past 2 seasons' is just one cherry-picked parameter.
  5. You and I are in complete agreement on this issue, but things have really gotten insane when we can refer to 17 million a year for pitching as peanuts.
  6. You're pulling 17 million out of a hat. As Palodios said, Masterson is looking for 20 million. You may have missed it when Lester said he also didn't want to 'set back the market'. That was a sign that he isn't giving any Pedey-style bargain.
  7. I'm not talking about what he's worth, it's what he can get.
  8. Beckett and Lackey are yesteryear's prices. Tanaka carries big risk for obvious reasons.
  9. Needless to say one potential suitor for Lester next offseason would be the NYY. I don't think they'd even blink at giving him $150 million +.
  10. Felix's extension was 7 years, $175 million = $25 million AAV
  11. Well, it's a good thing these spring games don't mean anything, because so far we are giving up a shitload of runs every single game.
  12. Disagree. Pedey's discount was unusual, and Lester shouldn't be expected to follow suit or risk being called a greedy putz. If Lester has a big year and goes to free agency he should be able to command at least $150 million. So $100 or $110 million guaranteed is still a considerable discount, IMO anyway.
  13. It won't cost much less than that either.
  14. It looks like the Sox might give the Nava/Gomes Splitsville platoon a shot at leadoff. They have each been put in the leadoff spot in spring games. Nava has a career .390 OBP against RHP. Gomes has a career .377 OBP against LHP. How much does the lack of speed offset the high OBP?
  15. The Red Sox have a history of announcing extensions after the season starts. It defers the increase for luxury tax purposes. See: Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez.
  16. Yes, Fred overDrew his account on that topic.
  17. Or as I like to think of them, the $200 million patchwork team.
  18. Boras's main target at the moment seems to be the Jays, for Drew and Morales. In an interview he pretty much told the Jays how to run their club - even pointing out that if they signed Morales, Adam Lind could be trading for pitching. The guy is too much.
  19. The Yankees entire approach to this offseason seems a little slapdash to me.
  20. The .800 OPS prediction for Teixeira is shaky at best. Yes he posted .807 in 2012, but that was his 4th straight year of steady decline. Then he missed almost the entire season last year and indications are that his health is still somewhat in question.
  21. With your psychology, why make them at all?
  22. Kool Aid is flowing in both Sox and Yankee camps. We're defending champs and you guys signed some elite talent. The reality is both teams have plenty of X factors.
  23. And you didn't even mention Tex and Jeter's 'questionable', to put it kindly, durability status.
