  1. Some of the New York writers like Joel Sherman think the Yankees have some serious potential weaknesses, especially the infield. Teixeira's health is still a question mark. So is Jeter's, I would think. If Teixeira and Jeter are not at least decent this year, the infield could be awful. Potential huge upsides for the Yanks are Sabathia, Tanaka and possibly even Pineda from the sounds of it. If those guys come out hot, maybe Hal will be persuaded to spend even more money if he has to.
  2. No, it was him, guaranteed. Fred will say the same.
  3. No, pinstripezac isn't Dutchy. I know pinstripezac from other forums.
  4. Agreed. If we did sign Drew though, I expect he'd get a lot more starts than the average bench player. Anyway, the Sox are staying on message about this so far...that they're prepared to go with XB and WMB. Drew's going to sign somewhere soon, I think. Boras is playing it out to the bitter end.
  5. Maybe, maybe not. Dempster was basically a depth signing last year.
  6. Stop worrying about Drew, Fred. He'll be in pinstripes before you know it.
  7. Yes, and if someone else signs Drew and the Bogey-WMB tandem gets off to a bad start, we'll see how the voting goes then. Fans are fickle.
  8. Yeah, that would be bizarre. Latest on the Yankees is that Hal said the wallet is closed after signing Tanaka.
  9. Cher and Farr...I like it.
  10. Yeah, too bad about that injury Boone suffered and what happened when they replaced him.
  11. Dempster helped with that, no doubt. But I have to think Farrell and Nieves deserve a lot of the credit too, as well as the rededicated Lackey. It was a confluence (right YOTN?)
  12. I don't think so. Ellsbury's contract was 155 million, Dempster gave them back 13 million. Still 142 million to go.
  13. zac, sometimes your references are too obscure even for me.
  14. Oh jeez not the year 2000 thing again. There is no universal agreement on which is the correct answer to this, because nobody really knows if there was a 'Year 0' or not.
  15. That could also be very embarrassing to him. I'm not really jumping to conclusions - I'm suggesting that we're in no position to judge exactly what is motivating him in this decision.
  16. f*** Dodger castoffs.
  17. With the stuff going on his personal life, I suspect Dempster is experiencing depression or something similar. Pretty hard to function properly in that condition.
  18. You don't remember it quite as well as you think. Let Baseball-Reference be your friend! Johnson made it halfway through the 1976 season before being canned for Zimmer. McNamara made it all the way through the 1987 season and halfway through the 1988 season before being canned for Morgan.
  19. I don't begrudge Schilling his $8 million either. He more than earned the money we paid him in his time here. And he put his health on the line to help us win it in 2004.
  20. Yes, he's a dumbass, mediocre pitcher who happened to make $90 million in his career. The $90 million came from us baseball fans one way or the other...the joke's on us, really.
  21. Agreed, confluence is a very good word.
  22. Dammit, I am really coming up with some decent stuff here too.
  23. It's really not that much different from retiring. Some guys retire even though they know they could hang on another year or two and get paid plenty for it.
  24. I predict they'll spend most of the 13 million.
  25. Anyway f*** Dempster and his motives. It's 13 million freed up, it's a salary dump the easy way. Let the good times roll.
