    He's a solid veteran catcher, that's why. Career OPS of .750 and has a good rep for handling pitching. Nieves vouched for him.

    Yes, there's already a lot of chatter about why Gomes didn't hit for Pierzynski or Bradley. And Fred's blood is already near the boiling point. Baseball is back!

    I think the Sox would definitely give him 5/100 or 5/110. I'm guessing Lester is looking for 6 years and that's the snag.

    OK thanks. There are a few different writers and calculation methods mentioned in that piece. One guy came up with $7 million. Dave Cameron's is a little over $6 million.

    Where are you getting the $7 million per win number from? FanGraphs value per win for 2013 was not much over $5 million.

    Saying Spring Training stats mean nothing isn't the same as saying Spring Training means nothing.

    Carp's dollar value per FanGraphs last year was $6.2 million. His actual salary was $500K. So he provided $5.7 million of value above salary.

    Agreed. But that money ultimately comes from us, and it's a zero-sum game. Wealth is not being created, just changing hands. It can't keep spiraling upward indefinitely. There's always a pop and a crash somewhere along the line.

    I'm not buying $400 million. This bubble of insanity is going to pop at some point, and I think it'll be before it gets there.
