  1. I am such a middleman, because I see your point of view but I also see 700hitter's. Ben has done some very good things and I'm sorry he lost his job. But I can't dismiss the fact that this is the first time in 50 years we have had 3 seasons out of 4 that were this bad, and with one of the highest payrolls. The fact that we won a championship in the midst of those years is great, and also kind of bizarre. What ultimately did him in, maybe, was the duality of the team's approach - rebuilding and dishing out huge contracts at the same time.
  2. The final verdict on Cashman's 2015 performance is yet to be rendered, of course. If the Yankees win the division he's gold. If they lose the wild card game not so much. He wasn't expecting the Jays to become the juggernaut that they currently resemble - not many were.
  3. Also, in the post of mine that you quoted, Asher was capitalized, but in your post, it wasn't.
  4. I can't see why the Dodgers would not be heavily motivated to retain Greinke. You can't pitch much better than he has for them.
  5. You're right - signing Hanley to play 3B would have made much more sense. By signing the two of them they seem to have overreacted to last year's problems scoring runs.
  6. The Red Sox didn't sign Panda based on his numbers in 39 postseason games. His regular season OPS with SF was .811. The real story with Panda is his steady decline. His OPS+ for the last 5 years in order: 155, 123, 116, 111, 80.
  7. I have this feeling Miley's ERA is going to end up this year at exactly 4.5.
  8. LOL that sums it up. And I'll be right there beating them.
  9. Nice to see you posting again, Mr. Palodios.
  10. 7-run rule for Asher. There really is such a rule, too, I've come to realize that.
  11. Greinke has been awesome. But the cost will be astronomical.
  12. EBJ! The guy has been an extra-base hit machine lately.
  13. If that's the case, maybe the continued passionate loyalty of the fanbase is a little overrated.
  14. I would say there was quite a bit of questioning of the Panda signing at the time. Nobody was saying it was a disastrous signing, but it seemed like all the smart fans were saying Headley would have been a much better choice.
  15. He's been pitching superbly for the Jays in big games. He would be a great acquisition. But they are absolutely going to have to break the bank to sign him. He should command as much as Scherzer. They may have to give him an opt-out to sign with us. Several other wealthy teams will be in the mix. It's no slam-dunk.
  16. As were Ellsbury, McCann and Beltran a year earlier.
  17. It remains to be seen what kind of shape this team is in for the near future. We are saddled with the Hanley and Panda contracts. Papi is reaching the end. Our young pitching prospects are all works in progress. Guys like Porcello and Kelly seem like they could go either way. We have no bullpen. We still have a huge amount of uncertainty IMO. The big positives we have are Betts, Bogaerts, Swihart, Vazquez, JBJ hopefully, Castillo hopefully.
  18. Which Miley are we scheduled to get today?
  19. It's a sad state of affairs when people start caring about that s***.
  20. Sadly, I have to agree with Jacko. I think Girardi deserves some credit too. To me he seems like a Francona type who keeps the team going even when things look bleak.
  21. I like you, Ben, and I believed in you. But you f***ed up, buddy. Sorry. No one ever said being GM was going to be easy.
  22. Renteria Crawford Hanley Panda This is 4 high-profile free agent signings in 11 years that have been immediate disasters. Can anyone make any sense of why these players have crashed so spectacularly in Boston? Is it that tough of a place to play? Also, is it fair to say that the FO failed to learn anything from history when they signed Hanley and Panda?
  23. Porcello Buchholz Kelly Rodriguez ??? Who's the comedian who voted for Masterson? Pruneface?
  24. What about TV ratings though? Isn't that the main reason they're replacing Orsillo?
  25. In fairness, I think the criticism is that in the years he pitches well, Buch gets hurt. The years he doesn't get hurt, he pitches lousy. It's an oversimplification, but it's not that far off the mark. Pretty much what's happened the last 4 years. To me picking up the option still makes sense. It's only a $13 million commitment, and if he does well they have another $13 million option for 2017. It was a pretty team-friendly deal done by Theo.
