  1. I realize he got fired, this is about what other posters here have said. Such as that he left an absolutely golden team set up for sustained success.
  2. I liked Ben and I hope he gets another job. And he definitely did some good things. But he can't be given a pass for back-to-back losing seasons on a huge payroll, or Hanley and Panda, or the terrible 2015 pitching staff.
  3. Ben can be given credit for not trading away the kids like Betts and Bogaerts that he inherited from Theo. That and the E-Rod trade were his biggest contributions to the team's future.
  4. So how do we revamp the bullpen?
  5. That's the way it seems. But an awful lot of Royals hitters squared up on Price after that.
  6. That's an overstatement IMO. He did not leave many pitchers that could be considered golden.
  7. Free agency is now like a casino with incredibly high stakes games. GM's place huge bets that could make or break their team for the next few years.
  8. 31-6. That was pretty awesome. I was a fan of his, too bad he turned out to be a criminal.
  9. It's either that or trade a bunch of good prospects, which is a different form of cost.
  10. Of course not. But the allocation of the budget is all part and parcel of the stuff most of us amateur GM's like to jibber-jabber about here on an ongoing basis. PS if they can sign Price for 160 million I don't think Kimmi will shudder.
  11. Actually, SoxHop, the Red Sox have made their budget for payroll fairly clear - they try to keep it at or around the luxury tax threshold, which makes perfect economic sense. The threshold the last few years has been 189 million. But that includes some costs that do not show up in the salary figures you see for the players. The biggest amount is benefit payments which are now somewhere around 12 million a year. So the real budget for salaries is somewhere around 175 million. Signing David Price would be great. But his 30 million a year obviously takes up a big chunk of that payroll budget. That's why it matters to us as fans.
  12. I would argue that it is your money. You're one of the people who goes to games and supports the team financially. You're one of the ones who pays those bloated ticket prices.
  13. You can blame it on the owners, or you can blame it on us, the fans. We're the ones paying the tab. We're making them all rich, players and owners.
  14. There are good reasons to shudder. If the player doesn't live up to the big contract (Hanley and Panda) they can screw up your team pretty good.
  15. Plus, many pitchers have their own routines for celebrating getting out of the inning or whatever.
  16. I feel bad for Andrus. 2 errors in one inning directly leading to the loss. That's hard to take.
  17. Yet another reminder that with baseball, nobody knows s***.
  18. Just do what I do, Kimmi, and be thankful he's over in the other league now.
  19. But what makes you think Washington would want to move him - he was even better than expected in Year 1 of his contract.
  20. DeGrom vs. Greinke is a pretty nice matchup for a Game 5.
  21. Covering his bases, sure. He'll probably try to trade Hanley but if there are no deals that make sense the cover story will become the actual story. I think DD has been sending some messages Hanley's way that he better get it together for 2016.
  22. Nah, the rigged gun went to Chicago with Theo.
  23. I'd say a chance, yes. Depends on other offers he gets.
  24. Actually, sk7326 has also promoted signing Lackey, and I am on board too. Make it happen!
