  1. This is an argument with no resolution because it is based on subjective criteria. If the construction of the 2015 team is judged based on expected results, it was a success. If it is judged based on actual results, it was a failure.
  2. It's one of the many conundrums of human evolvement.
  3. Things aren't getting worse. The universe has always been a mess.
  4. Dombro is saying the right things so far. He wants to move Hanley to first and he likes the idea of a Betts/JBJ/Castillo outfield next year.
  5. I would have liked picking up Porcello as an isolated transaction. What I don't like is that, as I see it, they traded Lester for Porcello.
  6. I know there's some cherry-picking involved here, but the last time Hanley both played more than 128 games and put up an OPS over .759 was 2010.
  7. You seem bitter. Sports is escapist entertainment, NESN is a commercial venture trying to make as much dough as possible, and there are lots of other options for following the games.
  8. Hawk's act is just weird. I wasn't watching at the time, but someone said that on Shaw's home run the other night Hawk's play-by-play call was 'Get foul! Get foul!'. And of course we've all heard him do ridiculous stuff like that. It doesn't even qualify as homerism, really. Even homerism is a little more subtle than that. It's more like slob comedy. To think he's been able to do this for decades without anyone calling him out on it is kind of amazing.
  9. Comparing other announcers to Vin Scully is kind of pointless. It's an unreachable standard - like comparing other guitarists to Jimi Hendrix.
  10. You were especially lucky to miss Hawk when he covered the Red Sox in the late Seventies, before defecting to the White ones.
  11. You are 100% correct. What I should have said was, the Sox are 2-0 against Sale this year.
  12. Porcello is 2-0 in starts against Sale this year. The Sox are also 2-0 against King Felix this year. Crazy game.
  13. This is more about 'if the guy does a pretty good job and is very popular, why is he getting canned?'
  14. I'm surprised I haven't heard more about this. I guess radio *******s can get away with more s*** than *******s who put their stuff in print.
  15. This year he pitches great and then gets injured in July, before they can trade him. The guy has a lot of tricks up his sleeve.
  16. Not even Wally is safe.
  17. Well, this has been said many times already but I think it's true. In 2013 the Sox signed good character guys. Then they went completely against that by signing guys like Pierzynski and Hanley.
  18. I know it's a word that's used, but there has to be something better than 'handedness'.
  19. This game thread will be a hard one to top.
  20. Chad Finn is a good man.
  21. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a 'change of heart'.
  22. Which gets talked about more here, Rick Porcello's ERA or his WHIP?
  23. Well OK, that's just this guy's arbitrary criteria. Screw him. On this site we normally used good old Earned Run Average, and Beckett's ERA for his start was 47.26. Bard's was 26.99.
