Yes, the avatar thing is funny. One time 700hitter was having an argument with Spitball, another poster who also has his dog for an avatar, and it was driving me nuts with the two dogs going back and forth. -

Trajectory yes. But I think you can only go so far. Most of the things you mentioned also affect hitters and pitchers, and they tend to even out over the season.

UZR ratings will probably be done strictly by computer within the near future. The technology just keeps advancing.

Price's final price tag should be something like 220 million, depending on which teams are in on him. That's a tough call for John Henry, who has gone on record about how deals like that for 30-year old pitchers are a bad idea. On the trade front, Carrasco seems to be the consensus pick as the best target. I don't like the idea of trading E-Rod at all.

If data is being falsified to a degree that matters, someone is going to notice.

The thing is, if a guy's pitch velocity declines significantly, you usually find out about it first by him getting hammered. There's your accuracy test right there.

I think if you're using such data for serious purposes, you're going to go a little further to authenticate that it's reliable. That would include consulting game scouts etc.

We all remember Pedro's infamous relief stint in 2004 ALCS Game 7. After giving up the 2 runs Pedro was throwing smoke to get the last 2 outs of the inning. The radar gun had him throwing high 90's on a few of those pitches. I've got the DVD to prove it, as I'm sure a lot of us do.
