  1. 5 homers in 7 AB's - that can't have been done very often.
  2. Do you really think 3-4 days would make much difference? It's basically the same as the All-Star break.
  3. We already have replay and we already have overturned calls and the game isn't suffering. Balls and strikes is just the next step in the process.
  4. Yeah, way to give them a sense of individuality, George Sr.
  5. Now that's telling it like it is.
  6. I remember it, and through the miracle of Baseball-Reference, I can produce a lot of details about it. September 8, 1974 (at Fenway) Red Sox 8 Milwaukee 6 (Check out these pitchers for the Sox!) Starter Juan Marichal Winner Dick Pole Hold Bob Veale Save Diego Segui Sox RBI's: Evans 2 Carbo 2 Cooper Griffin Guerrero Beniquez Starting pitcher for Milwaukee - Eduardo Rodriquez
  7. And if you assume luxury tax of 30%, 28 million becomes 36.4 million.
  8. Lunatic.
  9. Porcello is actually in the first year of a 4 year/82.5 million extension, so his average salary is about 20.6 million.
  10. The Sox had a better run differential than the Cubs in May and are now only 4 games behind them in the standings. 'Not in the same league' is stretching things just a tad.
  11. Hopper, you are on a roll. And you don't mess around with getting the next game thread going. Nice work.
  12. Lebron is an established superstar, all-time great without a doubt. I think Curry has reached the superstar level too, for a much shorter period of time obviously. He's probably getting more attention partially because he's the new kid in town. Should be a good Finals I hope.
  13. Yankees lose to Jays again.
  14. An 8 strike, 1 ball inning for Kimbrel. Nice.
  15. Maybe there would still be a real guy behind the plate with a handheld device or a watch receiving the data. He could even do all the umpiring signals, punch guys out, the works.
  16. A sports radio guy in Toronto named Bob McCown, who is one of the smarter sports personalities, has been campaigning for automated balls and strikes for years. He asks why they couldn't at least test it out in minor league games or something like that.
  17. I would think more in terms of a 6 or 7 year offer. The extra appeal to the player is that they could still hit free agency in prime years.
  18. It seems like a good idea now because these guys are kicking ass, young and healthy. But they will break down eventually too.
  19. Tough call. The Sox locked up Pedroia on a genuinely team-friendly deal, and as soon as he starts breaking down people are freaking out about it and wanting him traded. There's virtually no way to win on long-term contracts any more. The risk factor will always be huge.
  20. Precisely.
  21. With Rice and Manny, the real question is what kind of defense did they play on the road?
  22. You'll also need a technician on hand in case the robot malfunctions.
  23. Evans suffered a severe beaning in August, 1978. Pretty sure that's the one you're thinking of.
  24. Interesting that the best player in the NBA and the best player in the NHL both have the initials SC and are both in the Finals. Well, interesting to me anyway.
  25. Strange how issues of umpiring/balls & strikes and moderating/trolls have become intertwined in this thread.
