  1. Wow, this article is quite a hatchet job. Drew being signed and Bogaerts being moved to third in 2014 coincided with Middlebrooks getting injured. A lot of assumptions about Farrell being the one making decisions like promoting Vazquez or trying Swihart in left. And where is the mention of Shaw starting over Panda or how well the young guys are doing this year? (Note to Fred - I realize the reason you posted this was only because of Swihart.)
  2. Buchholz is only a sliver of the problem really. Ben left us with a paper-thin rotation and a bloated payroll. Acquiring Price & Kimbrel put us way over the luxury tax limit. So to sign a guy like Chen you have add on 30% in tax. The only real option is to trade prospects for a cost-controlled arm.
  3. They invested 13 million in Young. He's got his OPS up to .787 now. Not sure why this is even a topic.
  4. Mets fans are singing the blues about letting Murphy go.
  5. True, but he got 71.6% of the vote this year so he's very close. Not like Clemens & Bonds who got less than 50%.
  6. Chen would have cost us the #12 pick in the draft.
  7. Love to see Vazquez with the contributions on O.
  8. Agreed. Did you post on BDC?
  9. Schilling has the 2nd-best K-BB ratio in history. First is an Irishman named Tommy Bond, who pitched from the years 1874 to 1884.
  10. I say yes. His postseason resume is among the best ever, if not the best. Add that on to some truly epic seasons and that crazy K-BB ratio.
  11. So much depends on whether Holt really is this guy who wilts after a while. If he is then moving him this year makes sense.
  12. Starting pitching is worse, agreed. But relief pitching is better. So the net decrease in runs scored is not large.
  13. No, they just get to stiff him in 2017. Same goes for any team that gifts him this year.
  14. We were 4-3 against KC last year and 6-1 in 2014. MLB is not the best place to look for logical results.
  15. Max is quite harmless. He just has a certain schtick.
  16. I'm surprised he hasn't added it to his sig yet.
  17. I get that. But I am guessing Schilling was pretty well-off before this venture. He literally bet the farm. It was a terrible risk IMO.
  18. Young's OPS is up to .802. He's doing fine.
  19. No question, but I think that part sort of depends on the guys hitting behind you.
  20. It might even have been enough to retain Lester and Lackey.
  21. A .333 OBP is usually considered to be better than a .250 OBP.
  22. At first I thought OPS was quite silly. Then I looked at the list of the all-time OPS leaders and I thought, OK, I guess there's some merit there after all.
  23. It just baffles me that a guy like Schilling would stake his financial well-being on freaking video games.
  24. Bonds will have trouble getting in.
