    Kimbrel had a couple of rough outings early, but he seems fine now. A .82 WHIP is pretty good.

    Based on what numbers? The overall pitching stats for the AL are MARGINALLY worse than they were in 2015.

    Here's what I think. If we were in serious negotiations with another team for a starting pitcher this past offseason and they were insistent on us giving up Holt, Dave Dombrowski would not have hesitated in doing so.

    We've won some slugfests. The concerning number is the ERA of the rotation, which was 4.81 entering tonight and got a little worse.

    Hanley seems like the most likely candidate, all things considered.

    I'd be interested in seeing some numbers on how the rotating DH has worked for other teams' offensive production. I know the Yankees had horrible numbers at the DH spot a couple of years in a row with the rotating thing.

    Zobrist is an established upper-tier player. And why would Holt have more value to other teams than to us?

    I'm afraid Ben positioned us to have a great offense and a brutal rotation, like the Sox teams of yesteryear.

    Oh yes. What's crazy about that 2012 season is that the Sox were actually over .500 at the end of July. Right now Atlanta is mathematically on pace for the worst record in history.

    I think you're really stretching it. It's nice that those two were friends - obviously they had other things in common. I'm sure there were also other people they knew well that they thought were *******s. I don't dislike Schilling, but it's easy to see how he can rub some people the wrong way. It's not just his politics - he comes off as arrogant.

    Holt is a good guy to have around even if he's not starting. Plus I don't think he's going to make a big difference if you're looking to trade good prospects for a starting pitcher worth trading good prospects for.

    Red Sox fans used to boo the crap out of Bob Stanley - who was/is all by accounts a nice guy who always did his best - but he became a sort of symbol of the team's failures in the clutch. So in 2004 Keith Foulke turns in one of the greatest clutch pitching performances ever as the team finally wins it all. Next thing you know, Foulke is getting raked over the coals for his 'Johnny from Burger King' remark. That really pissed me off. Do you want guys who are clutch or do you want nice guys? Make up your freaking mind.

    Can't forget about our old friend the Panda. This would seem to be the only opening for him, and we are paying him $19 million AAV, after all.

    In theory the sequencing of the batting order maximizes the number of guys on base with the middle of the order bats at the plate. If you have your 2 worst OBP guys hitting 1-2 it's going to reduce the total number of men on base that Bogaerts and Ortiz have when they come to the plate.

    Game 6 showed that the baseball gods had finally decided to smile upon the Red Sox. Getting Schilling ready to pitch and getting 7 strong innings out of him was a miracle. The only other pitcher we had who was anywhere near fresh was Arroyo.

    Not a fair statement. He was 3-1 in the 2007 postseason with a 3.00 ERA and 2 High Quality starts.
