  1. Agree on Weaver and Homes, but Clase only pitched in Games 3 and 4. Considering what an amazing season Clase had, yeah, this has been a tad surprising to me. But it's baseball and that explains just about everything...
  2. I like your cynicism. I'm not sure if it's juiced balls or tired pitching arms, but these LCS games have been nutty.
  3. Pretty good article by Joel Sherman on how analytics is shredding pitching staffs. https://nypost.com/2024/10/18/sports/mlb-bullpens-appear-to-be-reaching-a-breaking-point/
  4. Nope, with his bum shoulder(s) Raffy's got virtually the same problem as Yoshida, 2025-wise.
  5. Yes, we traded away a pitcher who had a 6 win season, and those 6 wins would have put us in. But we're talking about where we stand for 2025. How do we get those 6 more wins? By signing Burnes and Fried? And we also have to replace Pivetta/Jansen/Martin/O'Neill. We're really not "just about there" barring Anthony and Campbell being instant stars and Brez pulling rabbits out of his hat IMHO. I'm afraid we're still in the position that our head coach, JH, thinks we need to punt again.
  6. Yeah, the surgery basically takes him off the table for now.
  7. That's some fine Pollyannalytics, sir! Comparing Yoshida's possible to Schwarber's real, and tossing out games played, Park Factor etc! Well done!
  8. I'd argue that playing .400 ball after the ASB does not really suggest being "there", unless we're using Advanced Pollyannalytics...
  9. For all we know, Brez was forced to deal Sale - maybe not directly, but because of the budget - which would be not be all that different from Bloom being forced to deal Betts. Can't take anything for granted with this bunch.
  10. Let's face it, this is just one more reason for them to punt again. "Things just didn't line up for us this year, but there will come a time they do, and it's coming soon." - Sam Kennedy, January, 2025.
  11. Classic. 😁
  12. We're here because we're obsessive.
  13. Wow. Closin' ain't easy, as Denny says. Last night's Yankee-Cleveland thriller came on the 20th anniversary of Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS!
  14. Posts like that one from Harmony seem like they're intended not just to present information, but to make us feel bad. 😭
  15. As I posted the other day, Breslow is already letting us know he's not calling the shots: https://www.overthemonster.com/2024/10/10/24266818/craig-breslow-is-not-in-charge-of-the-red-sox You know, I think we are preparing for that to be the case. It’s obviously difficult to say, you know, this will be more aggressive in terms of what actually comes to fruition, because we can’t always decide those things, but we are preparing to be more decisive, more aggressive, you know, to field a team that is capable of winning the division, of making a deep playoff run, you know, I think we did several years, obviously predating me, building a really strong foundation, and the reason you do that is so you can deliver on the field. And I do think we are arriving at that point. That was the tone that Sam struck, that is, you know, the messaging I’m getting throughout the organization, is that, you know, it’s time to deliver to our fans the teams that they have come to expect, the competitive level they’ve come to expect of the Boston Red Sox.
  16. Epstein - gone - 2011 Cherington - gone - 2015 Dombrowski - gone - 2019 Bloom - gone - 2023 (4 championships among them) Leave it to the Red Sox to produce such a bizarre numerical pattern even in the midst of being successful...
  17. Yeah, "replaces" is definitely better, because then we can include Epstein and forego another major debate/dispute about exactly why he left. 😁
  18. "He wouldn’t hatch some plan involving hiring a control freak to usurp all Ben’s responsibilities." Man, that is a really unique way to describe DD taking over Ben's job. Anyway, from now on I will make it a point to say Henry replaces his CBO every 4 years.
  19. What he's saying is it's that there's a common thread between the Red Sox "offer" to Cherington and their "offer" to Bogaerts (and Lester before him). And the latest of course is their reported "offers" to some personnel to stay on at reduced pay. It's just how they roll. They have their own way of expressing how much they appreciate your efforts and want you around.
  20. What we know is that Cherington quit immediately. Of course his role in personnel was going to be drastically reduced. You don't bring in Dave Dombrowksi to just kind of oversee things. That's not his profile. He was a decision maker before joining the Sox and he's been a decision maker since. I think Occam's Razor applies here.
  21. I think Henry knew there was a very strong possibility he would quit. Cherington had been in the organization many years so Henry knew him well and would have a good idea how he would take it.
