  1. Posts like that one from Harmony seem like they're intended not just to present information, but to make us feel bad. 😭
  2. As I posted the other day, Breslow is already letting us know he's not calling the shots: https://www.overthemonster.com/2024/10/10/24266818/craig-breslow-is-not-in-charge-of-the-red-sox You know, I think we are preparing for that to be the case. It’s obviously difficult to say, you know, this will be more aggressive in terms of what actually comes to fruition, because we can’t always decide those things, but we are preparing to be more decisive, more aggressive, you know, to field a team that is capable of winning the division, of making a deep playoff run, you know, I think we did several years, obviously predating me, building a really strong foundation, and the reason you do that is so you can deliver on the field. And I do think we are arriving at that point. That was the tone that Sam struck, that is, you know, the messaging I’m getting throughout the organization, is that, you know, it’s time to deliver to our fans the teams that they have come to expect, the competitive level they’ve come to expect of the Boston Red Sox.
  3. Epstein - gone - 2011 Cherington - gone - 2015 Dombrowski - gone - 2019 Bloom - gone - 2023 (4 championships among them) Leave it to the Red Sox to produce such a bizarre numerical pattern even in the midst of being successful...
  4. Yeah, "replaces" is definitely better, because then we can include Epstein and forego another major debate/dispute about exactly why he left. 😁
  5. "He wouldn’t hatch some plan involving hiring a control freak to usurp all Ben’s responsibilities." Man, that is a really unique way to describe DD taking over Ben's job. Anyway, from now on I will make it a point to say Henry replaces his CBO every 4 years.
  6. What he's saying is it's that there's a common thread between the Red Sox "offer" to Cherington and their "offer" to Bogaerts (and Lester before him). And the latest of course is their reported "offers" to some personnel to stay on at reduced pay. It's just how they roll. They have their own way of expressing how much they appreciate your efforts and want you around.
  7. What we know is that Cherington quit immediately. Of course his role in personnel was going to be drastically reduced. You don't bring in Dave Dombrowksi to just kind of oversee things. That's not his profile. He was a decision maker before joining the Sox and he's been a decision maker since. I think Occam's Razor applies here.
  8. I think Henry knew there was a very strong possibility he would quit. Cherington had been in the organization many years so Henry knew him well and would have a good idea how he would take it.
  9. Are you actually trying to claim that Henry had nothing to do with Cherington leaving? That he had no idea Ben would quit upon learning of his replacement/demotion? It was a total shock?
  10. I agree that's what he said. I believe Cherington thought he was being replaced/demoted/asked to work for DD and that's why he quit, and that a lot of guys in his position would have done the same. I'm guessing Henry had a good idea that's what would happen-or maybe he just didn't care one way or the other. To me it absolutely counts as changing CBOs...
  11. Well, I guess we have to dig up the stories, but there were a number of candidates who were invited but declined to interview, including internal options, with more than one citing "family commitments"...
  12. Yeah, I know you don't like to count Cherington as getting the boot because he was "invited to stay on" as an underling. Cherington manned up and said "eff you", for which I do admire him... I have actually disputed that Bloom deserved it. I think he got scapegoated. I have said this today, in fact...
  13. They did come pretty close in 2021. That team was somewhat lucky to make it as far as they did, but luck does often play a part.
  14. Disagree. Henry firing his CBO every 4 years is not something made up, it's something that really happened.
  15. 2021 proved there was no need of a cliff, even with smaller payrolls. Just a few good moves make all the difference. Bloom made them in 2021. He did not make them in 2022 or 2023.
  16. He did what was necessary. Price/Sale/Kimbrel - that was 3 of the elite pitchers in the game added to the staff. You could call it doing the obvious and expensive thing, but that's kind of his approach, and it has produced results. We've had too many "creative" moves since he left...
  17. But we are a lesser team now, in terms of commitment. That's Henry again. And I think he's OK with using the CBO as his scapegoat...
  18. The ironic thing is that Bloom, like Dombrowski, seemed to do exactly what he was hired to do but was shown the door anyway. They each made expensive mistakes, but so does every CBO of a big market team. The GOAT Epstein made 'em too.
  19. Rob Manfred and Roger Goodell each have the same mandate-make as much money for the owners as possible. The embrace of gambling clinched that. If you want to figure out what they're going to do next, greed has to be your guiding principle.
  20. I'm just saying that blaming DD for spending is a really dumb argument. It's what he does. JH sort of knew that. If you want to argue against that position, have at it.
