  1. Bumgarner is an interesting guy to watch. He doesn't look like that much at first, but he is moving the ball all over the place with great command/control...a guy who really knows what he's doing.
  2. I don't think they are 100% meaningless. But they are meaningless without other data like run support.
  3. To be exact: Mookie's BA with 2 outs and RISP is .500, in 36 at-bats. Mookie's BA with RISP is .376, in 85 at-bats. All the more reason I want him at the plate as much as possible!
  4. I don't think he's free, the Yankees are keeping him as an 'advisor'.
  5. Canseco was telling the truth, but if he was only doing it to make a buck, he ain't much of a hero either.
  6. Unless it lands you in jail.
  7. moon, why don't you give some examples of these 'strategic signings of mid level FAs to short term deals to fill the gaps' that you like. Because all you've done is list signings of all types that you didn't like.
  8. So I guess what you're saying is, don't sign anybody! Unless, of course, you know you're going to get full value from them. Yes that should work. I wonder why Theo Ben & DD haven't followed that simple rule.
  9. Weren't Masterson, Dempster and Victorino exactly the kind of FA signings you're in favor of? Beckett was never signed by us as a FA.
  10. It happened with Sabathia. It might also be happening with Greinke. But we're certainly not off to a promising start with Price.
  11. I agree with you that the benefits of the opt-out all rest with the player. My only point to Dewey is that there is a possible scenario where the Red Sox could essentially 'get lucky' and have the opt-out work in their favor, but all things being equal, they would be much better off without the opt-out.
  12. And Scherzer has pitched very well in Years 1 and 2 of his deal...as has Lester.
  13. And Betts has hit 3 homers of 425 feet or longer this year.
  14. It's not missing the point of the post I was responding to.
  15. There is a fairly obvious scenario where the Sox win: Price pitches well from here to end of Year 3, opts out, signs elsewhere for big money, then flops. We therefore get 3 good years and someone else pays the freight on the bad years. Like I said earlier, just look at what happened on the opt-out with Sabathia. The Yanks would have been better off letting him exercise it - which he would have if they didn't bend over and give him a further 2 years.
  16. Put it this way - in retrospect, the Yankees would have been far better off letting Sabathia opt out. It would have made that contract a good deal for them.
  17. It was especially disappointing after losing 5 of 6 at home to Minny and Detroit.
  18. Farrell has to be on thin ice. The team was supposed to be all-in on making the playoffs this year, and they are playing their way out of them.
  19. I don't think anybody even cares that much any more.
  20. Ah, it just seemed like a good opportunity for a smartass remark, what can I say.
  21. You do come up with some novel complaints. Not too many fans give a crap about or even know how much the managers get paid.
  22. You only have to look back a mere 5 years: 2011 Ellsbury 321/376/552 32 HR 105 RBI
  23. Just imagine how John Henry feels...it's like a weird new curse.
