  1. The greatest hitting coach in the history of the world can't prevent all his hitters from having any bad months.
  2. DD was given the mandate to win now directly from the man who hired him. Henry did not enjoy finishing last 2 years in a row and did not like the prospect of missing the playoffs for the final 3 years of David Ortiz's career.
  3. Major league pitching and random variances happened to him. They can both be real pricks.
  4. You don't consider going from 3 runs up to tied losing the lead? In some sports you have the term co-leader, but that's when there are more than 2 competitors involved. I have never heard the term co-leader used in a baseball game. There's leading, tied or behind.
  5. A pretty strong case can be made that the decision did in fact cost the Red Sox the game.
  6. All the things you mentioned play their part.
  7. If the budget is limitless, roster issues are only peripheral concerns. If a guy isn't performing, regardless of paycheque, you jettison him. See Panda, Castillo and Craig examples.
  8. Lose Yankees lose...that is all.
  9. Leon is putting up a battle.
  10. Nice to see Shaw have a good night. He needed it. The buzzards have been starting to circle.
  11. Porcello is really having a season. He's been incredibly stingy with the walks.
  12. Maybe 2 months, might as well think big.
  13. Markus is tacking on to his WAR tonight.
  14. Holt making Farrell look better tonight.
  15. That ball was scorched by Young but very close to being catchable by Longoria. Might have been a double play. Game of inches.
  16. Oh well, 2 runs and a shitload of pitches thrown. We're swinging the bats anyway.
  17. It seems incredible how many times we get thrown out on the bases.
  18. If the option is exercised Clay will have outdone himself, by pitching well for half of a half of a season this time. The guy is a magician.
  19. Grady Little notwithstanding.
  20. He's just another squealer in our pigpen.
  21. And Barnes was looking good at the time.
  22. Just a temporary lull.
  23. I was thinking about this too (it was actually Saturday he was used). The only way it makes sense is if they intend to use him as our right-handed set-up guy - we certainly appear to need one.
  24. Either that, or some people have other things to do on a beautiful summer Saturday night.
