  1. You also said Francona wouldn't even make a list of the top 40 or 50 managers, which is a real head-scratcher.
  2. Good base runners know how much lead to take, how to round the third base bag properly and how to slide etc. There was really no reason to think Wright would be anything but s***** at all the necessary skills.
  3. Wright might be a little faster than Ortiz but you can't really expect him to have much clue how to run the bases...so it doesn't seem like much was gained replacing Ortiz with him.
  4. Run differential is a good correlator, but I don't put much trust in it. The 2002 Red Sox won 93 games with a plus 194. The 2012 Orioles won 93 with a plus 7. It's all subject to the vagaries of randomness.
  5. You two are my co-heroes on this topic.
  6. That is true. I presume it's because foot speed makes a bigger difference when trying to score from second on a single. But if the concern was about Papi's health they should have pinch run right away, and if it was about foot speed Wright was a questionable upgrade. It's certainly true that all the scrutiny of the move is because of the injury.
  7. I still can't absolve Farrell for this one. I think letting Papi run for himself was an option. After all Farrell didn't run for him until he went from first to second on Betts's single. If Betts had hit one in the gap Papi might have had to run from first to home. It seems like Pomeranz was the logical choice among the pitchers, since he has some experience running the bases this year. Wright had never been on base in his life in a real game.
  8. Porcello didn't look so relaxed last year either.
  9. You also have to consider that the team that scores first wins a hefty % of the time.
  10. I agree. Let's see how we do this week.
  11. The team knows what it's doing in my opinion. They're more patient and conservative than fans and they don't overreact to small samples.
  12. bWAR says: Trout 7.2 Altuve 6.9 Betts 6.6 Donaldson 6.4 Machado 5.6 Mookie's WAR jumped by .5 yesterday.
  13. Consistency is a hobgoblin. But seriously, as Kimmi noted on the other thread, Farrell did have more reason to conserve the pen Friday with Buchholz starting Saturday .
  14. Tito and Williams should both be very high. Not many managers have won more than 2 titles in the last 50 years.
  15. By the end of May JBJ had batted 6th 7 times.
  16. Trade Pedroia already.
  17. That's because the advanced fielding metrics revealed that Jeter had poor range, especially by the time Cano came along.
  18. Get ready for some MVP chants.
  19. Gotta love having a couple of .390 hitters at the bottom of the lineup.
  20. Some of Ben's best moves were for nothing: Wright, E-Rod, Leon. It was the expensive moves that did him in.
  21. Sandy Cobb.
  22. I agree with you, I'm just not sure how they can fit him into their 2017 plans. Seems like they're grooming Moncada for third base. Plus we have Shaw. The only spot for Pablo would seem to be DH, and his bat may not be good enough for that.
  23. Actually I do know Herzog said it. But from now on when I mention this I'll say 'Whitey Herzog and notin'.
  24. He's certainly not unhittable but he's fashioned a pretty decent career with that motion. I'd happily bring him back for 2017.
