True, but since it was after the trade deadline they were screwed either way.
-
I haven't seen anyone here say that.
-
Texas isn't even in the picture yet. We have to get past Cleveland and Texas has to get past Jays or O's.
-
Maybe.
-
Agreed - the overall conclusion, though, has to be that home field has been a non-factor either way.
-
I think I read something about a playoff game at Fenway in 1978 too.
-
He couldn't break the paradigm after all.
-
It was 'shortly after the August 1 deadline', per the Globe.
-
I think you're being deliberately obtuse. Included in that 55% are obvious mismatches, like it will be this year when the Cubs play the NL wild card. That series could be played in Japan and the Cubs would still be at a huge advantage.
-
I think the idea is that the L-R thing can be crucial when it does arise in those late and close situations. Pinch hitters are sometimes available and sometimes a complete non-issue - it could be the 3-4-5 hitters we're talking about.

Jays vs Red Sox 10/1/16

Kimbrel is a big concern right now, he has to be. 6 walks in his last 3 outings, which is equal to the number of outs he recorded. That's scary business. -
As it says, there's no clear-cut definition and it's up to the judgment of the voter. If you think it should simply go to the best player that's your prerogative.

Jays vs Red Sox 10/1/16

Very unfair. He was brought in with the bases loaded and made one bad pitch to a left-handed power hitter in a park built for left-handed power hitters. Other than that, he's has been doing a great job from the pen. -
That all should have changed when King Felix won the Cy Yung in 2010 with a 13-12 record and nobody complained.
-
Those stats would need to be stratified based on how big the difference between the 2 teams in W-L record. What I'm really interested in is how much does HFA impact the outcome when the regular season difference between the 2 teams is small.
-
I disagree. Porcello's W-L record is a product of 2 things: 1) Excellent pitching. 2) Luck - almost 7 runs of support per game. No, you can't penalize him for the run support, but you can't reward him for it either. You have to compare the quality of his pitching against Kluber & Sale & leave the W-L out of it.
-
I'd like to agree but I can't. Porcello's run support has been off the charts.

Jays vs Red Sox 9/30/16

He's been giving up an inordinate number of walks lately, there's no question about that. -
Nailed.
-
I don't see much difference in this context...Max impugning Kimbrel's character is about the same as 700hitter calling Farrell brain-dead.
-
Jeez Max, you take great offense when Farrell gets bashed, but you certainly don't hold back when it's time to bash one of the players.
-
Shaw's bat has plummeted into the abyss. His OPS+ is down to 87.
-
Yes, let's.
-
The possibility that he could lose the job to Koji has definitely reared its head, I would say.
-
Yeah, the only thing that's concerning is that this is the second time, the other being on August 9, that he's totally lost the ability to throw strikes. He walked 4 in the other game.
