Let me put it this way: the 15 years since Henry's group bought the team have generally been fantastic. If we can replicate that record over the next 15 years I'll be a happy Sox fan. (Of course I might also be a dead happy Sox fan.)
Funny thing, but things really have changed because we've won it 3 times. In the old days the answer to this question would have been extremely obvious.
The Angels tribute to Papi was great. Mike Trout in the shades and gold chain, Ortiz and Pujols bear-hugging each other. Alfredo Griffin probably thinking 'WTF am I doing here with 3 of the all-time greats?'
Last night's HP ump was not good at all. He punched out Papi on a pitch that was in the other batter's box. I thought Papi was going to destroy a bullpen phone or something but he took it pretty well.
We wouldn't need robot umps if the HP umps were all good on balls and strikes. But some of them are clearly lousy.
Who hits leadoff has never been strictly about OBP. Ellsbury has never been an OBP beast. In 2013 for example he was 5th on the team in OBP-similar to where Mookie is now. There were many guys who had better OBP's than he did during his time with the Sox.
Possibly. But with all the modern tech pitchers can do a lot of self-analysis with video and charts and such.
God knows what Carl Willis does, seriously. He doesn't seem to be helping too many guys.
Possibly not pitching inside enough, or not effectively enough inside, and hitters are able to look out over the plate. Price mentioned one game that he had not thrown any good inside strikes to RH hitters that game.
I realize that. But mvp keeps beating the drum about Koji leading the staff in appearances, and it's not factual.
Seriously, if Koji is that fragile he was used exactly right. Get what you can while you can and then replace him. For the Red Sox bullpen of 2016 there are a lot of innings to be eaten.
Ah hell, they should just show porn clips while the replay is being reviewed. People get bored sitting on their hands, I get it, but there are remedies for these things.
All that is true. But also true is that your ideas about the batting order are based on gut feelings and old rules-of-thumb like 'highest OBP should lead off'.
Read Kimmi's comments on the batting order. She has looked into this stuff in great depth, including all the Sabrmetrics research. She knows what she's talking about.
I respectfully disagree. Safe is safe and out is out. Pedroia was out on the steal attempt last night. Ump got it wrong, replay fixed it-quickly, because it was obvious.
Koji may have been overused somewhat in April and May, but it wasn't like he got Scott Proctored. As I pointed out earlier, at the time Tazawa went on the DL he was leading the staff in appearances, not Koji. And Kimbrel was almost the same.
