  1. Come on, couldn't you see the distraction and stress written all over JF's face?
  2. He's still got 3 of them left.
  3. Not only is it hard to hit the ball, but once you do there are infielders and outfielders who are quite good at catching it, and now there are also special defensive shifts and alignments based on computer analysis of your hitting patterns!
  4. Well aren't you the bold one.
  5. These playoff games are being dominated by pitching, can't argue with that. We're posting about this in the wrong thread though.
  6. Thanks man. It's a relief to know we don't have to worry that much about position players. We should probably trade Betts, Bogaerts, Bradley and Benintendi for hurlers!
  7. Holt is under team control, arbitration-eligible, 3 more years.
  8. They did what you're supposed to do when you have a chance to win it all and you have a need.
  9. Calling it a 'panic move' is absurd. They were in contention for a championship, they did need a starting pitcher, and there's this thing called the trade deadline that tends to impact the urgency of making a move.
  10. But you have to compare it to other deadline deals made by contending teams. They are often big overpays. Look at what Theo gave up to get a relief pitcher for a few months.
  11. Trying to get S5Dewey to like the Iggy trade is like trying to get Captain Ahab to like Moby Dick.
  12. One plotline that's emerging is that Chapman is a little shaky. The Cubs have been able to survive that so far.
  13. I have to agree. If we knew that Shaw could put up 2.2 WAR again next year we should welcome him back with open arms. It's a bit of a fantasy to think Pablo could exceed that.
  14. cp176, as with many topics on the forum, this one has gone from a molehill to a mountain. The only real point is that there is an HFA in the baseball playoffs but it's a very small one. For some reason that simple fact leads to an endless discussion.
  15. Of course Farrell's been getting bashed about it. Not by you two, but by plenty of others.
  16. Holy crap. Maddon magic.
  17. Man. Miller is pitching like the greatest in the history of the game these days. Absolutely brilliant move by the Guardians getting him, and also brilliant the way Tito is using him.
  18. Sure. Personally I think Farrell is taking too much grief for not getting the HFA. Some people that are bashing him about that seem to forget that we weren't assured of any playoff spot at all heading into September, not even a Wild Card spot. Then we win 11 games in a row and the division, and instead of people being happy about that they grouse about losing HFA. I really don't think it was Farrell's intention to lose 5 of the last 6 games. Kimbrel blew one against the Yanks. Pomeranz couldn't go and we had to start Owens. The last series against the Jays were all tight games. We lost 2 of 3 against a very good team that was going all out to get in the playoffs. I'm not directing this at you personally. I'm just talking in general terms.
  19. The 2015 pitching staff was an absolute crapshoot. Any projections were total guesses. The guesses that were made erred on the side of optimism. That can happen a lot, of course. That doesn't really exonerate Ben for putting together such a truly shaky staff.
  20. And fixing 3B and fixing the pen aren't really that onerous. Replacing Papi is a big deal. Maybe the biggest concern is still the starting rotation though. Porcello is probably not going to duplicate 2016. Price-who knows what the deal is with this guy. And our rotation still has that postseason monkey on their backs. We still have no starters that have ever won a postseason game as a starter. That's kind of weird. Some folks shrug it off, but I think it's a concern.
  21. And I agree with that.
  22. We'll probably never know why they felt they should trade Lackey, but it does seem that he must have given some indications of wanting to leave, threatening not to honor the deal etc.
  23. Here's the article that blows up the whole 54-46 thing. http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=19&cad=rja&uact=8&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwiw3pOF8NzPAhVDcT4KHcl4CNUQFgiAATAS&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wsj.com%2Farticles%2Fdispelling-the-myth-of-home-field-advantage-in-baseball-1443825563&usg=AFQjCNEQxMUoqIM6fgDxCuvfc-xYJUKTHg&sig2=7JPYe-pgS9idxru5ppjD5w&bvm=bv.135974163,d.dmo
  24. You have been totally fixated on 54-46 from the get-go and have no interest in any other information on the subject. We get it.
