    Johnson pitched 2 innings the first game. Kind of rules him out for pitching 4 or 5 the next night unless you're trying to end his season.

    Huh? Johnson pitched 1.2 last night and 2 the night before. They're probably holding Velazquez back in case they need him to start a game.

    There are actually some hopeful things about JBJ's numbers. One is that he's only struck out 4 times in 8 games. Another is that he has a crazy-low BABip of .154.

    Actually the median fielder would be 15 out of 29 but might be higher or lower than average.

    Well, as we now know, their plan was to have HanRam play and hopefully rake and not 'stop the vest'. So obviously this idea and signing Moose was never even a remote possibility. The realistic alternatives to Moreland were LoMo and Duda.

    I think it's pretty unlikely Moose would have signed with us to be a backup player.

    He's wildly erratic with the stick but the numbers do not support the idea that he's been a 'minor league bat' or 'putrid'. He has a career OPS+ of 92 which is obviously below average but not horrible. For old school power numbers he has averaged 17 HR and 71 RBI per 162.

    moon, I posted this in the other thread but it got buried in the bowling posts: If the Red Sox signed Moose instead of Moreland as you wished: You'd move Devers moves to first. Where does that leave HanRam and JMart?

    Well, let's assume that there are some better center fielders out there. The next question is whether any of them are available and at what price.

Red Sox championship seasons: 2004 1-run games 16-18 .471 other games 82-46 .641 2007 1-run games 22-28 .440 other games 74-38 .661 2013 1-run games 21-21 .500 other games 76-44 .633 Which certainly supports the idea that your record in 1-run games in itself means jacksquat...

    It's only early but it looks like we're somewhat fortunate Ohtani didn't sign with the Yanks.

    I have to double correct you there but it's all good. Stanton struck out 5 times April 3 vs the Jays and 5 times yesterday. Not the double golden sombrero...the double 'platinum sombrero' or some such thing. Wow that is some serious flailing.
