  1. Sure. And for pitchers, health is here today, gone tomorrow.
  2. Thunder is rolling through Florida! Keep 'er going.
  3. FWIW, Xander also put on some muscle this offseason, I think. Maybe not as noticeable as Beni's.
  4. He was raking pretty well in spring games FWIW. I think he'll be fine.
  5. If we look at Ben's attempts to secure a closer, he made 3 separate trades for high profile closer types-Bailey, Melancon and Hanrahan, all of which failed. He traded away quite a few players in the process-Reddick and Lowrie the only ones who may have been missed, I think. Ben also signed Koji Uehara, which was a brilliant success and one of the best moves of his tenure. Dombrowski went for the conservative and expensive play with Kimbrel. Dombrowski had come in for a lot of criticism in his tenure with the Tigers about his bullpens and closers. Tigers fans may forever believe they would have beaten us in 2013 if they had a real deal closer who wouldn't have blown Game 2.
  6. I hear you. I wonder if he's had any more injections.
  7. I read about this. It wasn't a no-hitter at the time though, it was a one-hitter. Otherwise I agree 100%, the Twins had no right to be complaining because this backup catcher bunts against their heavy over shift. The Twins made themselves look like a bunch of whiny pussies on this one.
  8. The Tiger?
  9. I certainly get the farm stuff. Perhaps I should rephrase: it's hard to keep a good young core together, even if you're one of the rich teams. That's a consequence of the combination of high salaries and the tax rules. Especially now with arb salaries for elite young players rising fairly rapidly.
  10. My pick for this year's Masters is ol' Bubba himself, Bubba Watson. Bubba has won this thing twice already, and he's won twice already this year. There are plenty of others who could win it, needless to say: Johnson, Thomas, Spieth, Woods, Mickelson, Fowler, and more. I bet $25 on Bubba at 17 to 1 ($425) on 'Pro-line', my country's government-run on-line sports betting site. And we're legalizing marijuana soon too. What a great place to live!
  11. It's Masters week. We just had an amazing weekend of golf, with Ian Poulter winning the Houston Open after a dramatic birdie putt on the 18th got him into a playoff with Beau Hossler. Poulter's win puts him in the Masters, among other good things. The LPGA's first major of the season, the ANA Inspiration, also went to a playoff, after an incredible Sunday in which one player after another made a run at the lead with amazing shots and clutch putts. There were 3 in the playoff, which Pernilla Lindberg of Sweden won today on the 8th extra hole over Inbee Park, after Jennifer Song was eliminated yesterday.
  12. If that were true there'd be a Bowling Channel.
  13. A good example of manager's decisions was in the Yankees game yesterday. It all came down to whether DRob should pitch to Donaldson or Smoak. DRob had excellent numbers against Smoak and bad ones against Donaldson. But Donaldson is apparently hampered by a shoulder injury and Smoak is red hot. It wasn't an easy decision to make. In this case Boone apparently let DRob decide.
  14. Well, there are a lot of substitutions that occur in baseball games. To totally dismiss the importance of handling these properly seems unfair to the manager, IMO. They can't just take a snooze in the dugout...they have to be pretty alert.
  15. Yes, but it's a different kind of torture. I had no idea Kelly put two guys on base. Plus I seem to have good luck when I do it.
  16. I think managers generally like to leave the catcher in for the whole game as much as possible. So the other guy gets a full rest etc.
  17. I couldn't even watch. I followed it on the game thread here.
  18. The LPGA tournament yesterday was unbelievable. The girls can play! I've never seen so many clutch putts made, I don't think.
  19. If you're behind. If you're ahead it's defense first methinks.
  20. Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out what it is about the place that depresses run-scoring so much. Take a look at the Rays pitching home-road splits some time. What's up with that? Is it just the park dimensions?
  21. There's something just not right with that freaking TropDome I tell ya. It's like trying to play baseball inside the Death Star or something. Don't judge anything by how the offense looked there.
  22. So apparently it was DRob who told Boone he wanted to face Smoak. Going into the AB Donaldson had much better numbers vs DRob than Smoak. Oh well.
  23. You are one caffeinated hombre, my friend.
