  1. Hembree's one of those guys who's about halfway between good and mediocre. He had a 3.45 ERA in a Red Sox uniform coming into today.
  2. Hembree mows 'em down. Baseball is a funny game.
  3. LOL not quite what he was saying. The catch will affect his stats for RF. But I have to admit when it comes to a guy like JBJ the eye test sometimes looks better than the advanced stats...
  4. Well, there are some that think you can have your cake and eat it too, type of thing...
  5. a) If Holt gets back up to speed why would his defense be significantly worse than it was in 14-15? He didn't have a knee injury, he had concussion/vertigo. The opinions of Dombrowski, Cora et al will always matter to me about 200% than anyone here. They've got infinitely more info than we do.
  6. You can keep saying this as much as you want. The advanced metrics say he somehow mustered back to back 2 fWAR seasons playing about 2/3 of the time. So there's that.
  7. I would expect nothing less - you Mainers are so down to earth.
  8. Swihart may turn out to be a much better player than Holt, no question. I like him too. It's a great thing to have a strong bench. I'm old enough to still bemoan what an awful bench we had in 1978.
  9. harmony is by no means a troll in my books. But it's clear that he thinks us Sox fans are generally a bunch of biased blind homers and he likes to try to show us the error of our ways...
  10. LOL The save is one of the stupidest stats in sports. Walden deserves something for covering 3 innings though. A merit badge of some sort!
  11. It's a concern of course, and you know the team has talked about it a lot and calculated all the permutations and combinations. They've got oodles of analytics people and bean-counters on the payroll. Looks like they've decided it's all secondary to going for a flag. I applaud that decision.
  12. I support any Red Sox player as long as the front office continues to support them. They know a lot more than I do.
  13. If the forecast is accurate they may not be able to play Sunday or Monday. Freezing rain followed by rain and then torrential rain on Marathon Day from the looks of it.
  14. LOL double punk = double plunk.
  15. Your point is not totally without merit, but... Morrison is actually guaranteed 6.5 million. I am guessing that Morrison's value was hurt by concerns that he was a one-year wonder, as his career numbers would suggest that possibility. A highly credentialed all-hit no-field guy can still make decent coin, as in J D Martinez. The bottom line with Hanley is, he still seems capable of putting up a 3 WAR season. And when you're the filthy rich Boston Red Sox in pursuit of a championship with a small window, you can't be concerned with f***ing around with whether Hanley's option vests. You go all out to win this year because that's what your fans expect and deserve, and if the option vests, that's show biz. I'm fairly sure a Yankee team in a similar position would do the same.
  16. If Holt puts together a few more good games like yesterday and gets his numbers up he won't seem to suck quite as much. That's the way it usually works.
  17. The incident should be over, really. If we start trading plunkings there's not only the risk of suspensions but of somebody getting hit in the wrong place by a pitch. No sense letting punks like Austin create those kinds of problems.
  18. Hanley says he feels good. Cross fingers.
  19. You obviously can't keep s*** in perspective, predicting 86 wins for a team that won 93 and added JD Martinez.
  20. Yeah, this 11-2 record is killing me. Still think 86 wins is a gift?
  21. Well said JF.
  22. Well, let's see, between 1918 and 2003 the Yanks won it all 26 times and we won it all 0 times, so yes.
