  1. I seriously doubt it's a record. Check out the Dodgers 2012-2017.
  2. Pete Abraham's Twitter account is one of the best places to go for the latest updates on injuries etc.
  3. Here's the conundrum, though. If you're the #3 team in revenue, but the #7 or 8 team in spending, say, doesn't that mean the owner is profiting at the expense of the fans?
  4. He's prone to early damage, sometimes recovers well.
  5. Crap. These spring training games are just as dangerous as real ones.
  6. Durable though.
  7. This is only speculation on my part, but I'm thinking that MLB might take a very dim view of a team trying to cheat somehow on one of these domestic abuse suspensions.
  8. Wonder if there's any chance they try to convert him back to a starter.
  9. FWIW here's the story from this year http://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/boston-red-sox-having-difficulty-attracting-additional-pitching-depth
  10. You can go retroactive to the last game played in. I assume in this case it's 10 days from the start of the season, which would mean he could play starting April 8.
  11. I'm guessing you can't serve one of these suspensions on the DL.
  12. Like it or not, about 37% of Holt's innings have been in the outfield.
  13. Let's move the Holt discussion to the 'Realistic View at 2018' thread.
  14. Can we move the Holt argument over here? Alex Cora made a statement that some folks may have missed: he plans to make extensive use of his bench this year, because he believes in keeping guys fresh and rested. That sounds like we'll be seeing a lot of Holt, and Swihart.
  15. Ha, you're right back to beating the anti-Holt drum after saying this the day before-in a weak moment apparently: As much as I have been down on Holt for a couple years, I'm glad he's back to form, and I'm fine with him on our 25 man roster.
  16. Things are different now. Being a big spender makes you good for the game.
  17. We have 9 pitchers who have started major league games. It's not the greatest depth but is it really that far from normal depth? The real problem, I would say, is that 4 of our top 6, Price, Pomeranz, E-Rod and Wright all have lingering health questions. But that's just the way it is. If the questions have mostly bad answers, then yes, we're in trouble.
  18. But what's the answer? There was a story that DD was trying to sign guys to minor-league deals and guys weren't interested because there were better opportunities elsewhere. I think rotation depth is a big concern for every team and always has been.
  19. notin, you're freaking out, man LOL Dombrowski is not unaware that sometimes you have to make a move for another pitcher during the season. He did trade for Pomeranz in 2016. He did acquire Fister in 2017.
  20. Bard was a reliever, no? Penny - 5.61 ERA Smoltz - 8.33 ERA Bowden - 9.56 ERA Yes, lots of warm bodies that took the mound, but that doesn't in itself constitute good or great depth.
  21. Here's a question: Can you name a Boston Red Sox team that actually had good to great rotation depth at the start of a season?
  22. OK. This started off with you saying Sale, Price, Porcello, Johnson and Vazquez is a 'pretty bad rotation to start the year'. That seems rather pessimistic to me, considering that Johnson has looked pretty good, and Pomeranz is expected back quickly. My sense is that your real gripe is with DD not picking up any dumpster dives yet. Apparently he was trying but couldn't find any takers because the dumpster dives saw better opportunities with other teams.
  23. I actually got a laugh out of Shaughnessy's latest column. It's about baseball in the age of the millenials. He mentions that the Red Sox employ no fewer than four club mental skills coordinators and Dr. Richard Ginsburg, who is the PhD director of the club’s behavioral health program. I asked Hall of Famer Jim Palmer if the Orioles provided him with a mental skills coach back in the 1970s. “If we had one of those, the guy would have spent more time with Earl Weaver than he would have spent with us,’’ said Palmer. “Motivational speeches? Here’s one. Earl would run out to the mound in the middle of an inning and say, ‘Hey, are you f***ing* trying?’ ’’ *It says [expletive] here in the actual article, of course.
  24. Inquiring minds want to know: Why did you say you didn't like the 96-101 bracket in the How Many Wins thread and went with 92-95 instead?
