  1. Cora obviously loves that style of play.
  2. Kimmi you are such a coupon-clipper.
  3. Even this is a relatively small quibble. Compare this to Ben's results trading for Bailey, Hanrahan and Melancon.
  4. That was probably the worst contract in history. Pujols has a big body, though, probably not a real comp for Mookie?
  5. Yes, thanks to Ben for that move.
  6. I agree, I'm just looking at where the market is. The Machado and Harper deals will be very interesting and instructive on what Mookie will be looking for.
  7. Well, we do need to get lucky with some draft picks, I'm certainly not arguing that. But it doesn't change my thinking that DD has done pretty much what he had to do given the roster he inherited and the mandate I believe Henry gave him.
  8. Some things just get in a player's head. I'll bet Kimbrel is as puzzled about it as anyone. But I'll bet he was thinking about it when he took the mound last night.
  9. This argument about the Sale deal that 'anyone could have done that' irks me too. What matters is that DD was the one who did it. He seized the opportunity. Are Yankee fans consoled by the fact that Cashman could have done this too? I'm thinking not.
  10. The point is the 2016 pitching staff shaped up as pretty terrible without some moves. E-Rod was a work in progress. Obviously DD was given a mandate by Henry to turn things around quick. Missing the playoffs again in 2016 wasn't going to be acceptable. Henry said it would be a 'disaster', in fact, in Papi's final season.
  11. This was in the first Yankees series when Holt got spiked and Kelly retaliated. PA wrote about how much better the Sox handled things this time around. I'm not sure if this particular statement came in an article or in a tweet.
  12. Fair enough, but go ahead and expand the 2015 staff's numbers to their career numbers and it doesn't change much.
  13. Look at their 2015 numbers and health status, please. That's what DD was looking at.
  14. Well, I'm not going for the 'outside of Sale' thing. Nice try though. Sale Pomeranz Kimbrel Thornburg C Smith Right now at least 2 out of 5 of those moves look bad, of course. But that's not really the point. The point is that the pitching staff was in tatters and absolutely necessitated acquisitions by trade or by free agency for the team to contend for the division.
  15. Farrell was kind of an inscrutable, lantern-jawed sphinx. The way he 'handled' the Pedroia/Machado and Price/Eckersley episodes reflected badly on his management skills and had a lot to do with his demise, I think. FWIW I don't know if anyone else read this, but Pete Abraham reported that one of those 'highly placed sources' told him he witnessed Farrell and DD having quite a heated shouting match about the Pedroia/Machado thing. That's never good for your job security. Anyway I think kudos are due to DD for the Cora hiring. He got the right guy and he did it in a quick and decisive fashion.
  16. The question nobody who accuses DD of decimating the farm system can really answer is how else he was supposed to assemble a good pitching staff from what he was left with.
  17. Nothing to write home about, but a pretty respectable performance for a guy making his ML debut in Fenway in very adverse circumstances.
  18. Oh I know, it's shudder-worthy for sure. But Zack Greinke is the current AAV bar-holder at very close to 35 million.
  19. As much as we all love him, this is very true.
  20. Midas was actually kind of a loser.
  21. Yeah, it's kind of an all-time feat of deadline magic so far.
  22. Craig has a problem with the number 4. Whether it's 4-out saves or 4-run leads. Something about that number messes up his head.
  23. I figure if it could be done that easily, someone would have done it already. It's pretty blatant what the intent is, you have to admit.
  24. I can't see MLB allowing it. It's blatant AAV manipulation on a pretty big scale.
