  1. more value than Sandoval, Hanley and Castillo combined.
  2. I really didn't know what to expect before 2015. I was shocked when Pablo and Hanley were announced on the same day and I was doubly shocked when Ben assembled that rotation. I thought it could go well or it might go very wrong. That's what I mean about Ben and his X factors.
  3. The happiness of winning titles does not last very long at all for most fans. You're absolutely right about that.
  4. The question is how good of a potential future those players represent.
  5. I'm talking about the 11, not the 111.
  6. "Getting too far into the weeds" - I like this. What can really be a mess is when you get too far into the weeds and you've also been smoking weed.
  7. Slowly but surely things seem to be looking up for JBJ with the bat.
  8. So you're saying: -The ball is juiced -Scoring is down -But pitching is terrible
  9. Yeah, the regular game thread posters are beside themselves with happiness. You can see it in their every post.
  10. The ERA gap from top to bottom this year looks huge only because of Houston. Their ERA is 0.60 better than second place. Take out that massive outlier and see if it's much different than previous years.
  11. How'd they make out getting those last 9 outs with a 5-3 lead last night? Sorry man, there was just no way to resist that.
  12. Also a back-to-back last place team with 15 players with World Series rings.
  13. They read like a Grumpy Old Men's Club meeting.
  14. Tell me something jung, if major league pitching is so awful, how come the average ERA in baseball is only 4.10? Let me guess. Major league hitters are even worse, right?
  15. Just gimme the 11, thanks.
  16. I partially buy this and I partially don't. I think Ben built a lot of X factor into his teams. A lot of guys who were highly variable in performance for one reason or other. Guys who were really hard to predict. Theo kept turning out 95 win seasons. The Yanks as I reluctantly pointed out haven't been under .500 since 1992. For some reason Ben was Mr. Feast or Famine...
  17. I tend to agree. One thing you can say is that none of them been big immediate help.
  18. Maybe. But going from 69 wins to 97 back to 71 is kind of unique, I think.
  19. Sort of like a s*** sandwich with a strawberry sundae for dessert. Damn glad to have Beni though.
  20. Nobody can replace Larry.
  21. Yes, I think these winning streaks are making us all a little nuts.
  22. It seems to be the case that Ben's acquisitions tended to vary wildly in performance. And those were the good ones.
  23. It really stung having seasons of 69-93 and 71-91. It was embarrassing. Especially when the MFY's haven't finished under .500 since 1992.
  24. I don't think it's too difficult to construct an argument that Ben's 2013 title was built on a combination of players he inherited-Papi, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lester and Lackey, and the lightning-in-a-bottle short term success of Victorino, Napoli, Drew and Koji. There's nothing wrong with being lucky of course. But when Ben's luck went bad it really went bad.
  25. Unfortunately the team's disastrous 2014 season made the 2013 season look like it was indeed incredibly lucky. Just about everything that went right in 2013 went wrong in 2014/2015. Like Victorino, Napoli and Drew. Great seasons in 2013, but that was the end of them.
