  1. And in mid-June or thereabouts Sam will be deployed once again to publicly opine that the team is underperforming.
  2. Fewer, I believe. Without looking it up, less refers to a single quantity, whereas fewer refers to individual items.
  3. Lots of time, they just would rather keep the money.
  4. Cora will be called upon to say "Yeah, we know what the projections say" with a knowing grin, just like he did last year, when they turned out to be dead on.
  5. All of which leaves us at #13 in projected WAR and about the same in projected payroll. Both better than average!
  6. I'd say 5 wins is a lot. We made a blockbuster trade for Crochet to try to add 4-5 wins, basically...
  7. We have to be careful, because old Sammy is getting pretty smooth with the lines. Here's what he actually said: "Even if it takes us over the CBT,” said Kennedy at the owners meetings, “our priority is 90 to 95 wins, and winning the American League East, and winning the division for multiple years.”
  8. The Ohtani investigation brings to mind the death of Spinal Tap drummer John "Stumpy" Pepys in a "bizarre gardening accident". Per bass player Derek Smalls: "The authorities said 'Best leave it unsolved'."
  9. See, the projections aren't corrupted by Recency Effect!
  10. I believe it was reported that Ohtani and the interpreter were close friends for years and Ohtani placed a lot of trust in him and counted on him to look after things besides the interpreting. Seems like he was the personal assistant. So you might be on kind of the wrong track there.
  11. It appears that the Sox big weakness in 2024 was actually a same-hand problem. Our righties couldn't hit righties (.646.) And our lefties couldn't lefties (.629). Horrific! Yankees: RH vs RH .783 LH vs LH .698
  12. Prior to the Yates signing, Cot's had the Dodgers at $374.7 million AAV + $122.5 projected tax = $497.2 million. A new record and climbing.
  13. The Dodgers are ensuring a push for major changes in the next CBA. Which of course will lead to a big fight and quite possibly another work stoppage or threat of one.
  14. This is really getting sick. The Dodgers have gone well beyond what we used to think of as the Yanks trying to buy championships.
  15. Our RH hitters: Refsnyder - kills lefties but righties kill him Wong - decent numbers last year but metrics say he was lucky Rafaela - terrifying K/BB ratio Story - who knows Grissom - who knows Campbell - only real hope (I'm not forgetting the fringy Romy who did OK last year.)
  16. Wood's aggregate record from 1971-1975 was 106-89. An average record of 21-18. 😁
  17. Personally I think if they don't sign a RH hitter, our lineup of RH hitters has a chance to be one of the feeblest we've ever seen in Boston, unless Campbell does something big about it.
  18. The thing for me is, we never got a credible explanation for how the interpreter could make 30+ transfers of $500 K to an unidentified account without the bank looking into it. We did hear about all these new security measures banks have in place to flag suspicious transactions for money laundering and the like. So how could this happen? I'd love to know how the bank explained it to the investigators.
  19. Last year we kept asking what starting pitcher they were going to sign besides Giolito. And the answer was NIL.
  20. Anybody's guess. We really can't count on anything.
  21. I think they'd like to make the playoffs. But I think the financial bottom line has clearly become their dominant focus.
  22. Yeah, I don't think the idea of "the guy" really works, mainly because too often "the guy" has other wealthy suitors. Even the Yanks are losing out on "the guy" in some cases-Yamamoto and Soto.
  23. Seems to me it's clearly framed as a two-part point. 1) Why are they spending so little; 2) Why, when they do spend, do they pick guys like Story and Yoshida? I can wrap my head around the concept of multi-faceted incompetence...
  24. But most of the guys they supposedly "really want" they get outbid for. Let's face it - they're failures.
