  1. Zack confirmed that $300 mill was their ceiling. And when these guys set ceilings, they don't unset them.
  2. The Red Sox were 17-26 against LH starters in 2024. O'Neill had a 1.18 OPS against lefties. Solution: dump O'Neill and don't replace him! 😛
  3. More from Zack Scott on Mookie. "Mookie Betts’ contract with the Dodgers offers another compelling example. He signed a $365MM deal with $115MM deferred. While the headline figure was impressive (second largest contract behind Trout!), the present value was $307MM, placing it below a few additional contracts (Bryce Harper, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gerrit Cole). This structure allowed the Dodgers to acquire a star player while satisfying Mookie and his agent’s desire to be seen as a top-two player. In Boston, we had tried to re-sign Betts, but our self-imposed $300MM limit wasn’t enough to meet this desire. A similar deferral structure to the Dodgers’ deal might have changed the outcome." Too bad they didn't think of that.
  4. Question is where does Abreu play when Anthony comes up.
  5. It's nuts that they've done nothing about replacing O'Neill's bat. Sure looks like they're counting heavily on Campbell.
  6. That's what the perception always was. Then the analytics guys pointed out that the Wall gives and takes - a lot of balls that would be out in other parks hit the wall and go for singles or doubles instead. But one thing's for sure, the Sox have been brutal at Fenway the last two years.
  7. I think that was a song by Tony Bennett. I left my bat In Colorado A mile high on a hill It waits for me
  8. Well, it doesn't necessarily mean that, but it's often used that way.
  9. I really believe they are being run in a committee type fashion. The latest evidence of this was the comments by Zack Scott. Everything was we this and we that. And hardly anyone even knows who the heck Zack Scott is or was. Plus of course we had the reports about Bregman, that Cora and Kennedy wanted him and Breslow wasn't as keen. It would explain a lot about the way things have been going and all the mixed messages.
  10. A lot of that is surely blind luck, considering we haven't done so well in so many other areas.
  11. The thing about O'Neill is he absolutely murdered LH pitching last year with a 1.180 OPS. We're going to be even worse against LH pitching this year than we were last year. Keep in mind our LH hitters OPS'd a catastrophic .629 against LH pitchers last year.
  12. Yuck. Their cheapskatery is really altering our thought processes.
  13. Understood, but the facts remain that O'Neill was our third best hitter last year, had a 2.5 WAR and has not been replaced in any way, shape or form. It's the latter part that's the real issue.
  14. You're saying O'Neill was/is a bench bat?
  15. I won't. But I also won't be surprised if they don't.
  16. Me too. Then again, as fans our job is to stay hopeful until hope is completely snuffed. And the Sox of recent years really know how to snuff.
  17. Oh, I'm sure they've been working hard on that extension offer. The only problem will be when Crochet and his agent see the numbers. 😛
  18. Our most reliable RH bats are actually Wong and Refsnyder. 🙃
  19. I've been saying it for a while now, the only real hope for the 2025 offense is the kids.
  20. Shaughnessy actually said this about 3 years ago: "The Red Sox like one-year deals the way I like ice cream".
  21. Don't disagree with any of that, but Breslow did make a point of talking about balancing the lineup, so if they don't sign a RH bat it'll be another case of saying one thing and doing another.
  22. That's fair. But I also look at the fact that O'Neill had a 2.6 bWAR/2.5 fWAR and has been replaced by J-Didd, who consistently delivers a 0.0.
  23. Good stuff Davy. You're kind of preaching to the choir when it comes to TalkSox. I think we're all puzzled, disappointed, disgusted or some combination thereof about this team's approach. We've certainly learned not to rely on any of their assurances. Last year it was Werner's 'full throttle', this year it's Kennedy's 'even if we have to pay tax we're going for 90-95 wins' speech. Who knows, maybe they'll sign Grichuk and Robertson (2 more 1 year deals LOL) and deliver extensions for Crochet and Campbell or Anthony or both. As fans we live in hope.
  24. It's all jibber jabber to pass the time. I just think we don't have very much information on which to base calling Narvaez a steal at this point.
  25. It's hard to see any apples to apples comparisons that could be made. I'm just naturally dubious that the Yankees would be so generous as to give us a steal, but it would be nice.
