  1. We can't trade him, he's not on our team. Also, a 1.30 WHIP and 4.12 FIP don't scream "ace" or "#2". Unless Shields comes heavily discounted (a possibility) they should aim for a superior option.
  2. Crisp can't even play half the time. At least Young is healthy.
  3. Hamels is owed big money into his mid-30's, and it wasn't nearly the same value. While the Phillies took on Harrison to balance the money (and to see if there was anything left there, that's clearly a no) they received five prospects including a top-50 guy.
  4. Nowhere have I said any of those things. I said Chen has been better and more dependable than Buchholz, not that I agreed on forfeiting a draft pick to sign him. My comment clearly focused on one point: That people should not be surprised if Buch outperformed Chen. I contended otherwise, full stop.
  5. He wasn't the answer, as I stated above, but he's clearly better than Buchholz.
  6. So again, not all ballplayers have the bat control or the offensive approach to beat the shift consistently, which is my point.
  7. I know. I was clarifying the specific reason.
  8. So it's not as accesible as OPS and OPS+ because of that exact same reason. In general, the casual fan is averse to Fangrpahs, and will dismiss out of hand any statistic that is not easily understandable.
  9. Everyone. Over the last three years, Chen has averaged 171 IP of 3.61 ERA, 1.24 WHIP ball, while Buchholz averages 131 IP of 3.74, 1.23 WHIP ball. Those 30 extra IP yearly coupled with much higher consistency (Buchholz had one superlative year, a s***** one, and one above average one, while Chen has one slightly below average and two slightly above average ones) definitely tips the scales in Chen's direction. I agree that Chen would not have been the savior Dojji paints him as (it's his MO when he covets a player), but let's call a spade a spade. Chen is a more dependable, consistent pitcher than Buchholz.
  10. It is a problem if you're trying to go the other way, because there's a very high likelyhood that you'll be in front of an offspedd pitch away and you'll shoot it back up the middle or to your pull side. If it was so easy "hitting it where they ain't" shifts would not be as effective as they are. Bat control is hard to come by.
  11. You're kind of an ******* aren't you? I'd suggest more posts about baseball and less snarky ******** if you want to stick around.
  12. It's pretty goddamn hard to hit a ball the other way when a pitcher is pounding you with hard stuff inside or soft stuff away. If hitting oppo with authority was so easy, everyone would do it, and shifts wouldn't be as popular as they currently are.
  13. Price better not f*** this up.
  14. I don't take happy pills, I take happy "shots". You suck at doctoring. Btw, gom sends his regards, lol.
  15. Latos is back down to earth, and something definitely clicked for Hill and Happ last year.
  16. Go figure. I hate the TOTR acronym almost as much as I hate you. That's a lot of goddamn hate.
  17. I'm actually starting to like you. It makes it harder for the day when we inevitably battle each other to the death.
  18. Are you going to stop being a confrontational douche, like, at any time? I'd like to know so I can put you on ignore instead of getting myself banned. Act like an adult. Focus on talking baseball, not other posters.
  19. The problem is that the FA market is barren for next offseason, and that is only going to increase the price of starting pitching. If they can find a dependable arm at a palatable price this year, why wait? This team is not lacking for resources. After dropping a load of money and prospects on Price/Kimbrel, conservative measures went out the window. There needs to be consistency. Can't cross your legs and arms after you blew your wad trying to gain contender status.
  20. Their ballpark is pretty extreme at suppressing RH power.
  21. You know Pedroia is staying with this team until your kid is old enough to drive. BUTTholz, on the other hand.....
  22. No stat is flawless, because there are a lot of things stats don't measure. But nothing beats OPS when you want a quick look of a guy's offensive profile. wOBA and wRC+ are great, but not necessarily as accessible or easy to understand as OPS and OPS+ .
  23. I think only one of those is happening.
