  1. Drew had a pretty bad regular season by his standards in '07 with the back injury and the sick child (796 OPS) but boy did that Grand Slam felt like deliverance for people who liked him and felt compelled to defend him. Never has there been a more polarizing player IMO, but I loved the guy.
  2. Arenado.
  3. The really talented guys are usually punks though. It's the heightened sense of confidence that comes with all-world talent.
  4. What exactly is your point? I don't see it.
  5. This is an excellent point.
  6. Adrian Beltre. Can't forget Beltre. Also, Daisuke Matsuzaka's first season was pretty damn good. Lump Okajima in there too.
  7. You can't penalize Ted Williams because the Red Sox of seasons past didn't do a good enough job breaking the color barrier or, more importantly, amassing starting pitching. Ortiz did not win those WS by himself, and the Splinter was never given as many chances to shine in the big stage either.
  8. Exercising the option was not the problem. Not getting more depth was the problem. Not exercising his option would simply have created another hole (for the full season, not just half) to fix. Guys like Mat Latos, Doug Fister, our very own Rich Hill, Juan Nicasio and Joulys Chacin were available, all of them with varying degrees of upside.
  9. Mike Napoli, Shane Victorino, Koji Uehara?
  10. The highest AFV he has registered this year was his start against Tampa (93.9 MPH), his lowest was last night (93.01). I'll admit that while I'm not a reactionary guy, I'm wringing my hands a bit over here.
  11. The power, the defense, the baserunning all have been there for Mookie. He will be fine. As for Castillo, he's looking like a sunk cost, but the rationale behind signing him was sound. The bidding war for his services was huge, so it's not like the Red Sox were the only team who greatly valued his abilities.
  12. I civilly responded to the person who asked the question. You jumped in making a strawman argument. Afterwards you come in with the "calm down cowboy" condescending crap, and now you're asking for "patience and civility". Bro, give me a break. I am here to talk baseball, not to be told what I think by someone who I've barely interacted with.
  13. Price's loss of velocity is concerning.
  14. In terms of Young's deployment issues, it would have been much easier to handle and justify had Rusney not s*** the bed and forced Holt into starting duty.
  15. You jumped into the thread and immediately misconstrued the point I was trying to make. That's pretty goddamn annoying. I'll take your "lighten up" and raise you a "read before you post".
  16. This is the actual conversation. It's a good idea to read through it before jumping into conversations. Not trying to be snarky, but it avoids misunderstandings.
  17. My point is that they got it wrong in that instance, as an answer to a previous question about why the Sox didn't go harder for Abreu than they did Castillo. That's it. I don't get why you're now trying to tell me what I tried to say or what I think.
  18. A-Rod had both, I think Timmy only had one.
  19. You are essentially bringing up an argument that I never made. I said they got it wrong when evaluating those two players, not that the process in itself is flawed or incorrect.
  20. The f*** did Ted Cruz ever do to you?
  21. Lincecum's holding his workout on Friday. I think he's done. The only other pitcher to come back from a similar procedure was Colby Lewis, but otherwise, hip labrum issues are career enders.
  22. 25 game sample. And compared to the career numbers of the Red Sox as a team, that's not even statistically significant.
  23. Kimbrel better not f*** this up.
