  1. Then he got injured and ended up with less than 120 IP. Don't get me wrong, picking up the option was a no-brainer, but the Buch-Price comparisons are pretty silly.
  2. The same could probably be said for everyone.
  3. A bad decision is a bad decision is a bad decision. Simple as that. You are conflating different issues. The fact that it has not prevented the Sox success does not take away the fact that it's not the correct deployment of assets. The fact that the Sox haven't faced many lefties doesn't force Farrell to start him against righties, or the pinch hitting decisions (which are even more head-scratching). The usage patterns have subsided, and we're about to play some more lefties, but the point stands.
  4. This is a fair point. Maybe they shopped him and no one bit. I think I saw somewhere that Buch was in the conversation for the Smith/Elias trade, but the M's were hell bent on Miley.
  5. Prior history. It's been well publicized and analyzed how his performance suffers once he gains significant weight.
  6. Right, because Farrell is contractually obligated to play Young against righties.
  7. And in MLB, even if they catch, apparently they don't necessarily suspend you (Chris Perez got caught smoking dat hash and didn't get suspended).
  8. MLB's drug of abuse system is ass backwards. They refer you to the JDA board if you're suspected of drug of abuse use. But if you're suspected and the board has you on their sight, they do test.
  9. That's a good way to describe Drew. He could do everything well, the problem is he wasn't always on the field to do it.
  10. Obviously he lacked the necessary "grit" and "dirtdogness". He should have worn a sweaty hat and dirty batting helmet. That would have made him a good signing.
  11. His reason for refusing to promote the fight was money. He wanted 10 mill, White said "lolnobruh" and we all know the rest of the story. Weird turn of events if you ask me.
  12. Of course the MLB tests for drugs of abuse plus steroids. They've busted (and suspended) a bunch of guys over the past few years.
  13. People are individuals. Just because Prince Fielder can hit while being fat doesn't mean Pablo can. He clearly can't hit or field after reaching a certain weight threshold, as his history of struggles at the plate would indicate.
  14. You wish you were Dominican. We have the best food and the highest crime rate! How do you beat that combo! Plus I'll raise the electricity problems, crippling external debt and generalized government corruption! Actually scratch that, being Dominican (if you can't play baseball and live in the Dominican) sucks.
  15. It's a culture/heritage thing. I bet you wouldn't like being called French just because you're white. After all, the French are cheese-eating surrender monkeys.
  16. But who knows? Maybe they find a way to get him to stop being fat. He's still young, he may rebound from all of this.
  17. Manny's career WAR is 66.3. That only includes his time with the Sox.
  18. Peripheral and advanced stats: Price: 12.03 K/9 (!), 2.21 BB/9, .362 BABIP (!), 57.3 LOB% (!), 2.88 FIP Buchholz: 6.18 K/9, 4.23 BB/9, .314 BABIP, 64.4 LOB%, 5.20 FIP. Price has the profile of an ace who has run into some bad luck with balls in play and RISP. Clay has the profile of someone who sucks. It's not a bad thing to call a spade a spade.
  19. But there's a possibility he gets there.
  20. It is accurate. And it's a matter of national pride for guys who, like me, are hispanic. Dojji wouldn't understand that because he's never had his race mixed up with some other. While living in the US, some of the Dominicans on scholarships got called everything from "uppity black guy" (me) to "Indian with weird English" (my friend David) which is honestly hilarious until you correct someone and then they try to tell you that you don't know which race you or your compatriots are.
  21. But Ortiz is hispanic. In fact, he had a very public spat when he was not yet a star and played winter leagues becausea European reporter called him and African American.
  22. Love Shaw. Doubt that. Not because of the bat, but because Arenado and Machado are as close as you'll find to a wizard with a glove at 3B.
  23. Hispanic is Hispanic. Ortiz is hispanic. No ifs or buts about it.
