  1. Oddly, Webster looked okay. Price was at or near mid-season form. That guy is soooooooooooooo good. The game was awful. Very sloppy play bay the "team" the Sox threw out there. Ugh.
  2. I have the Sox / Rays game on the tv in the other room. Every time I hear the crack of the bat on a ball I quickly turn to see what happened. It's odd to know that I am so conditioned about these things. 47 years as a Sox fan. I think that I am an addict or close to it.
  3. Well I liked Scal. He was always saying something interesting and usually with humor.
  4. Did Boras really say those words???
  5. Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
  6. How messed up could he have been to actually tell the cops the truth? I think that this is so funny. If my Son had done any of this crap at that age I would have grabbed him by the ear and dragged him off to apologize in person to those that were affected by his improper actions. It's all bad parenting.
  7. Fred I'm with you on this. I think. Yes, Spring training is about getting back and sharpening your skills, timing, etc. Yes, the games do not "mean anything". However, showing up and playing competitive ball is important. It's necessary to reestablish the winning culture of the team. No way would I like to see the Sox start the season with a very poor Spring Training performance.
  8. I love it! There is a place for metrics, of course. But actually watching the game and making your own seat of the pants ( SUBJECTIVE!!!!!! ) assessments of players and other aspects of the game is what being a baseball fan is really about. Well done! Of course that short right field porch will probably help. This makes me want to see a spray chart for Ellsbury.
  9. I don't think that being shorter will get him run on or intimidated. In fact, I doubt that his height will be an issue nor a determining factor is his career arc. The ability to play skillful defense and being able to put wood on the ball are all that matters now and later.
  10. Yes, Remy is back as of last Sunday's NESN broadcast.
  11. And I must add that I'm pretty pumped about this!!! I really can't wait until there is a Sox game on TV everyday. Although I hate west coast games that start at 10:00-11:00 PM EST!!!!!
  12. Well truthfully Fred, the trade was always characterized by the Boston media as "addition by subtraction" anyways.... Still, from what I have seen of those two ( not that much, honestly ), I have similar feelings.
  13. Welcome to talksox, the rogue nation.
  14. I don't like the collision rule change either. I don't like changes that alter the character of the game. I did not even know that this was an issue. I wonder if there is a stat that says how many home plate "collisions" happen per game, per season? Are so many players being concussed and otherwise injured by this exciting play? Why pussify the game this way?
  15. Fred why do you believe Cherington is fixated on bringing back Drew? You are the only mention of this thinking that I have heard or read. I have said this many times, I would like to see Drew back with the Sox. And, I don't see it happening.
  16. As much as I would like to agree that is is pleasant to see the Yankees "dumpster diving", I think that what they have done in signing Bailey and possibly Hanrahan is smart baseball. Pitching depth is a very good thing and hard to establish and to maintain. To the Yankees credit, they got or will get these guys on the cheap. Not a premium price tag as with the Sox. If they get anything out of these guys it will be more than the Sox ever derived from them.
  17. It's ridiculous that Dempster's move away from the game has become an "issue" here on talksox. No one here knows all of the details surrounding his life away from baseball. Judging him for this move is not appropriate. I'm glad he left the team and not because it will free up needed money under the cap. I always liked him last season because he was an intelligent, articulate, and humorous man and from what I have heard a great teammate. For these reasons alone, I will miss him. However! While he was an effective "innings eater" ( something that we should all see great value in ) it was usually torture to watch him pitch. He either gave the Sox 4 1'3 decent innings or got shelled. Sort of like Wakefield at the end of his career. On paper the Sox APPEAR to have depth at starting pitching. Enough to cover this "loss", anyway. I like the fact that Dempster leaving may allow Workman or another minor league talent a chance when needed. It is almost assured that the Sox will need at least one of those guys this season. Buch is a question mark. Peavey no longer has his best stuff, and Felix is not exactly the King at this point. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Relax Fred, the Sox are not likely to sign Drew even with this development.
  18. Well I'm a Christian and I am "old". I'm certainly not jealous of Jetter and his sexual exploits. I have better taste in women than he does and coincidentally, most of the women I have been with are better looking than the women he has been with. Although he did lay pipe in Miriah Carey when she was young and attractive. Props for that!! He was a mediocre defensive shortstop who had some pop and happened to play in New York. Naturally, anything that he has accomplished becomes greatly magnified in it's significance. 3300 hits is pretty good. But banging Carey was otherworldly back then.
  19. FINALLY I agree with everything you said!!! Put horseface on his ass. And Sox fans can smile that we did not have to endure his goofy looking face and inept play all of these years. YECH!
  20. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!1!!!!!!1!!!1
  21. But Doc, who are any of those guys? I too am puzzled that the Yankees have not done more with the pen or rotation this off season. So far.
  22. I've been watching as much as possible. I even watched the Russians loose at Curling last night!!! I think curling is stupid and does not belong in the Olympics as a medal sport. But I always enjoy watching the Russians taking one up the pooper!!! I love speed so watching downhill, luge, and speed skating is fun for me. Last night I got to see Bob Costa drink a shot of vodka live. He and Carillo were very funny. Of course, neither of them know how to drink vodka!!!!
  23. I wish they would bag the hanging socks. I've never liked that logo.
  24. Great stuff. The last few weeks of the 1967 AL season were so exciting. I believe that 4 teams were in the hunt for the pennant and no one knew what was going to happen. I listened to that game on my transistor radio! Baseball has never been better.
  25. I really don't follow most of the other teams very closely. However, your choices are essentially in line with how I see things playing out.
