I wouldn't assume that the Sox brass will never get into another big dollar, long term contract again. You are using your sense of what is logical and what is right. The men who own pro sports franchises are rich boys out to massage their own egos. If the mood suits them to make a big signing splash they will.
Tell me how many times Napoli was confronted with this situation. A K is just another out. It just seems to be more dramatic and disappointing. This is why people key on it and remember them so much better.
I like this move. A Sox strength ( the pen ) will likely remain so in 2014. I hope they jettison the two high price stiffs they signed in the past two years in Bailey and Hanrahan. Some deals just don't work out.
I don't know anything about the posting process. Does that Japanese team get to keep only 20 mil. from one team? As I said, I have no understanding of this process. Where does the 20 mil. from each team that bids or posts go? Do they get to keep their 20 mil. if they are not the eventual winners? Do they lose the 20 mil. if they negotiate with the player and don't sign him? I think that was the case when the Sox went after Dice K but I'm not sure. Can someone please explain this s*** to me?
A good move by the Yankess to fill a hole that was glaring. Injuries aside, he probably puts up decent power numbers in that stadium. I am not an advocate of over spending and I suspect the Yankees did just that. Who else was going to offer 5 years? And at 17 mil/year??? I'm glad the Sox did not get into that action.
No, Tillman owns the Sox. 4-1 in the past 5, 3-0 this year, blah, blah, blah. I just remember watching Sox bats flail against him. They lose or it is a big upset.
Possibly? I don't see a collapse. I just don't see the Sox rotation having enough horses to compete in the East anymore. Although they should be able to feast on everyone else in the league except Oakland and Detroit..
This is a great idea. Without question Yaz is one of the all time greats in Sox history and one of the best defensive left fielders in in history of the game. Do it.
I agree with all that has been said so far. I was not surprised by Tazawa or by Lackey. They both deserve credit. I suspected that Lackey would be much better when I saw how much weight he lost coming into camp. That can only help his durability within each game and throughout the season. Tazawa has always been one of my binkies. He is a tough competitor and now he knows how to pitch in the bigs.
I have been following Nava fairly closely. I have seen him become the second best defensive left fielder for the Sox since 1966 when I started to follow the Sox. Now he has developed better plate discipline and has used his new approach to show a power stroke. I like it. I hope that he stays healthy and continues to produce this way. Dojji must be proud.
I am surprised with Lester and I believe there must be an underlying physical problem. Surgery will fix that for next year, I hope.
I'm pissed that Bucholtz is now injury prone. Otherwise he is pretty much lights out most of the time.
I am also disappointed that Victorino is not on the field all the time. He has to prevent himself for becoming another Nancy boy. Otherwise, he is really fun to watch.
I live in North Attleboro ma. You would not believe all the media and other traffic this murder has created. The body was found about 200 yards from the house that I owned and lived in for 22 years. Arron Hernandez lives about two blocks from my old home. This is all very strange. I saw some of this frenzy when Teddy Buschi ( he lived across the street from me at the time)had his stroke. Young Theodore and his lovely Wife Heidi were loyal clients of mine. Adam Vinitiari (sp) used to live on my street. I'm casual friends with many Pats players. I normally would not be phased by any of this. However, this time I am puzzled. Why is this murder and the suspect Hernandez so important? We have many real problems to think about and to pay attention to in this country. Today I was looking forward to just seeing the Sox pre-game shows. Instead, no mater what sports station I turned to all that I could view is "live" coverage of this momentous occasion. If it were not for the media feeding this inconsequential crap to the insatiable masses, I would never even know about this case. Save for the three helicopters hovering overhead all day.
