  1. Excellent post.
  2. Why a second thread to discuss this?
  3. I guess this was predictable. In any case, the Yankees have a lot of work to do to even get a whiff of being competitive in the AL East.
  4. Onley Reports Yankees have signed Tanaka. 7/144 with a 4 year opt out. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2014/01/report_yankees_get_masahiro_tanaka.html
  5. Unless the Sox just do not want Drew back, there is absolutely no logical reason not to offer him another 1/10 contract. Even Borras would go for this, I believe. It would serve both parties well. As I said up thread quite a while back, the Sox are a better team with Drew. How this concept escapes anyone on this board is baffling.
  6. Dealing WMB would be a huge mistake at this point. He has too much upside and needs a chance to work it all out. Power bats are a premium feature in any lineup. I say play him until he either shows his stuff ( possibly 30+ HR power ) or he plays himself out of the lineup ( a good reason to have Drew around ).
  7. 8/200 is nuts on an unproven commodity. It's nuts for any athlete other than say, a golfer. One injury and that investment goes south in a hurry.
  8. So if Drew does come back, who gets moved to make salary room? Aren't the Sox hovering around the cap now?
  9. Ridiculous contract. Does anyone know if the teams get insurance on these contracts? Say, the player blows out his arm and never fulfills the contract. Do the teams have protection? I seem to recall "back in the day", the Celtics would have contracts guaranteed by Lloyd's Of London.
  10. Oh. This is disappointing to know. I just thought I was being intuitive and using common sense.
  11. It's not really a stupid question. I wondered the same thing when I heard about it. This is my guess only. Given that A Rod is seeking relief in federal court, and the fact that the court is not likely to grant him any consideration because his union had negotiated for the arbitration process to benefit MLB players, he is strategically filling suit against the union so the court may think that the union did not protect him in his troubles with MLB. I'm not sure about any of this. I'm not even sure that I have articulated what I was thinking!
  12. Bay plays left field only. If he has anything "left in the tank", it would seem that he lacks positional versatility given the Sox currently perceived needs. In any case, I always liked the guy and I wish him well.
  13. You like Scotch? Cool. And that is a nice thing to say.
  14. What a scumbag Hernandez is. This Loyd murder happened about 1/4 mile from my house in North Attleboro.
  15. Welcome to the Rogue State.
  16. Actually I give both WM and Dell credit. They are living together so it must be sort of serious. Put yourself in his shoes. Nubile flesh throwing itself all over all of the time. It may sound fun to most guys but it has to be a pain in the ass after a while. How can he have the time and opportunity to find a "nice" girl? In Dell, he gets to observe her and get to know her over multiple exposures. Then they go out together and boom. Or bang! So to me, he just met someone at work. It's too late for her to scream harassment as she is living with the guy so what is the harm? They either work out or they don't. Same deal any couple has. They just happen to be public figures. Good luck to them both.
  17. Pretty true. And as Username has said, Drew gives the Sox offensive depth. Something that a lot of was lost in the off season so far.
  18. I just think Peavey is too costly and his cost far exceeds his value. I did not see very much good pitching from him after the trade. I imagine someone who takes the time to dig can shoot holes in my opinion. I don't care. The Sox gave up a big talent to get this guy and I don't think he had much to do with the W.S. title. I agree about WM. He will have his at bats and he should put up big power numbers. I belive he gained a lot from the Pawtucket demotion last year. I expect he will be a top producer for the Sox in 2014.
  19. Exactly. If anything, it's good for business because the media and fans eat this s*** up. Free publicity is great as long as there are no crimes involved.
  20. I don't put any value in any of these girls that do the sideline reporting. I watch baseball to see baseball. I can see women anywhere else when I want to. So no, I do not care about the eye candy aspect at all.
  21. That's what is said in the Boston media. In any case, who really cares??? I hope that WM plays a full schedule and shows his power potential by swatting about 25 or more. I really do not care if Dell is back or not because she adds little to a "broadcast" ( pun intended ) other than a nice smile and large floatation devices.
  22. I will gladly go on record that I want Drew back. I can understand some fans being concerned that his presence at SS will inhibit the development and playing time of two promising young players. But I think that this concern is over played and over stated. The question is weather the Sox are a better team with Drew or without him. I believe that it is clear the Sox are better. SS is a premium position. The Sox in Drew, have the best SS that they have had since Nomar. He plays very solid D ( although his range and arm are not spectacular ) and he is a Major League hitter. You can not say that about either of the young guys just yet. They have big upside but the Sox need a proven SS NOW. I say sign him if possible and let the infield sort itself out during the season. I just wonder where a contract for Drew fits in the payroll unless they unload the stiff Peavey or even Dempster. I wonder how everyone would feel about Drew if he had not been plunked in spring training? What kind of offensive numbers would he have put up? As things stand now, he was one of the better offensive SS in the AL in 2013.
  23. This is a dumb post and is a waste of bandwidth. Who he or she bangs has nothing to do with play on the field. Good for him.
  24. As some of you know I hate big money contracts and especially for long terms. Having said that, I say pay Lester the money. I would shy away from the 5-6 year deals at around $120. mil +. But I would be okay with 5 years around $100. mil. The assumption in the Boston media is that Lester will take the home town discount. I don't see this happening. He already gave the Sox one of those. He strikes me as a guy who is honorable and not so much a "pay me" guy. But he is not stupid. Someone will throw big money at him if he has another one of his good years in 2014. The Sox risk this and loosing him if they don't try to sign him now. Lester has had some rough spots in his career. But he is one very good left handed pitcher and a character guy. I say sign him and move onto signing a reserve OF and Drew if possible. Happy new year!
