  1. I agree. I've said this recently in other words. Cashman is not done. But he sure has a long way to go!
  2. One more arm? You're too smart to really believe that. Aren't you? Almost the entire bullpen and rotation are suspect. The infield is a shambles and the outfield has no depth. Ready for battle? I guess so. It will be a very hard and long battle for the Yankees this year if they don't acquire more of just about everything. You know, every year I believe that the Yankees will be in the hunt for a divisional championship and a playoff run. Even last year when so many parts fell off of the cart I was convinced that the Yankees would find a way ( $$$ ) to get back into the thick of things. This year, I don't see that happening. In fact, I don't understand how any objective and fairly knowledgeable baseball fan could believe that the Yankees as currently constructed will be competitively viable and able to be there at the end. I don't say these things because I am a Sox fan homer, hate the Yankees or their fans ( because I don't....well maybe most of the fans ). I say this because it's is quite obvious the Yankees are in poor shape.
  3. Have the Sox really displayed cold feet with regard to handing the starting jobs to WMB and XB? I don't think there is any evidence of this Fred. I appreciate your interest and passion for the game and I respect your opinions. But here, I believe that you are reading to much into what is happening in this matter. I suspect that Sizemore was signed for depth and is just a low cost, low risk signing to provide further depth in the outfield. Depth is good, would you agree? If The Sox really were concerned about JBJ's likelihood of success as the chosen starter in CF this year, would it not have been a better idea to go out and sign someone who had already demonstrated the ability to play competently everyday NOW? I know you are almost totally against re-signing Drew. And honestly, I don't believe that they will. However, they won a championship with Drew as the starting SS for the bulk of the year. He is proven. XB is supposed to be a "sure bet". But what if boy wonder comes up short ( no pun intended ) and struggles with a full time diet of MLB pitching? Who plays short then? Again, I doubt that Drew returns. But if he does, I believe the Sox are a better team. And both WMB and XB will get their shots.
  4. If you get a chance to watch some episodes of The Saint I believe that you will get a kick out of them. It's British humor. It was pretty good.
  5. Hahahahaha!!! I meant no disrespect by my earlier post and wanted you to know this. You were not around when I originally posted that Saint avatar. I did it because some members had suggested that I was a Saint of the internet. Lol! Now that I have taken the time to figure out how to change my avatar I have re posted the Saint. I used to love that show, by the way.
  6. I've almost completely lost interest in the NBA and not just because "my hometown team" is not relevant now. The game has changed esthetically and many rules have altered the character of the game. Call me old school or whatever. If many of you younger members had been around to see the NBA of the '60s-'80s, you would probably understand how I feel. I don't like the run and gun perimeter game where you are allowed to walk with the ball and play zone defense. I am on the fence about the 3 point shot only because I enjoyed it in the ABA game. Give me a low post game with banging and rebounding anytime. Carry on.
  7. I think that drafting is an imperfect process with some crap shooting. It all comes down to the quality of scouting and subjective analysis. Very few players are "sure things". I don't pretend to understand any of the nuances of the slotting stuff. In any case, drafting is just a role of the dice most of the time.
  8. And another thing.... I still want Drew back on the Sox. My only apprehension is about the salary cap and what will happen if he is resigned. I don't think that his presence on the team will in any way interfere with the development of either Middlebrooks or Bogarts. Drew is a proven major league player that consistently plays high quality defense and has some pop in his bat. In my OPINION, the Sox are a better team with him on the roster. Also, I remember when I became a member of this board. I made a few remarks about his brother "Nancy" and I was lambasted. Now, I seem to have become a "Defender of Drew". Lol.
  9. I'm with you on this Ted. I always liked Bard. I don't understand why so many people that follow the Sox ridicule him. He, and the Sox, made a choice that did not work out. Many Blame Bard and I do not know why. It's not like he has been a bad apple on the team. I hope that he makes it back to being a useful and productive MLB pitcher.
  10. Wow. I must apologize to this person cbbosox. Never saw this coming. How stupid of the Sox/NESN.
  11. "What did you see behind Clay tonight?"
  12. The truck day gif is funny.
  13. Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
  14. Lol. Anyway, I have very vivid memories of the 1986 ALCS. In fact, the entire year was memorable for me as I married my good ex-wife in 1986. My ( then ) Mother -in-law was best friends with a cousin of Anton Figg the drummer on the David Letterman show. She was able to get my Wife and I tickets to the show at NBC in New York City. This was a big deal for me as I was a HUGE Letterman fan then and there was about an 18 month wait for tickets at the time. As some of you know, I loathe NYC. But I drove my Mustang GT down to Manhattan to go to the show on the night the Sox were playing the fabled Hendu game against the Angels. The Mets were playing the Astros in the Astrodome that night. During commercial breaks, the video monitors in the studio would show the live NBC feed of the game in Houston. Additionally, the wise ass announcer for the show would interrupt the dialog of the show with such necessary game updates as "Dave, Mookey Wilson is at bat". The Mets won just as we were exiting Rockefeller Center and heading to parking garage. There was spontaneous celebration in the street. I drove us as fast as traffic on the LIE would allow out to East Hampton ( where my Wife's parents lived ) so I could catch as much of the Sox game as possible. I got to see almost the entire game and my Mustang was not vandalized. The Sox won! So yeah, I remember that game.
  15. Well, I have just been reminded of why I have returned to talksox.
  16. Now I remember why I stopped coming onto talksox.
  17. I was convinced that the Yankees would make a run at Garza. Glad he's in the NL. I hate watching him spit every pitch.
  18. Yeah this signing has Baldelli comparisons. I used to like watching 4 you outfielders and speculate who was the best. Baldelli, Gardner, Ellsbury, and Sizemore. I'm hoping that Sizemore makes it back but my optimism is tempered by reality. His body is a mess and he has two really bad knees.
  19. Probably as long as so many people continue to spend $100.+ per month on cable tv packages, pay $45. to park at a ballgame, pay $140. for two average seats at the game, pay $30.+ for a cap, etc.. The distribution of wealth in our lovely economy is atrocious. Yet so many people spend so freely on unnecessary things. Go figure.
  20. Excellent post except that Kurt Suzuki is not a "Japanese Player". He is an American born player that hails from Hawaii.
  21. Everything you said is true. This is why I wonder what Cashman will do. I don't care about the Yankees being over the cap because they have never worried about it. Cashman will do something. He has to. No one ( in the Yankee's nation )will be willing to tolerate another year like '13 for the Yankees
  22. This should be fun for you Mike. Trolling Talksox from Europe!!! Lol!!!! WE need many posts each day from you including pics. Wait until you see all that gorgeous young quif. Good thing you speak Spanish!!!
  23. Wow. Fatty looks like a changed man. Sort of like Shaq's little brother. Can he pitch at this weight?
  24. I have been reading this and other related threads with considerable interest. One thing I have not seen discussed in detail is what the Yankees are likely to do before the start of the season. If I'm Cashman, I am very busy trying to shore up the infield, find bullpen help, and find a reserve outfielder. Yes, it is true that the Yankees had "an all-star team" on the DL. However, none of those players were really performing at an all-star level before they went down. Expecting them to all produce as in their glory years is a wet dream. Cashman is no dummy and he has a huge budget. It will be interesting to see what he does before April.
